Do you think MAC is over-rated ?

Once upon a time...when I had a job and no babies...I had money. And I remember one of my favourite activities on pay day was to treat myself to a new MAC lippy/blusher/highlighter or whatever else they had just launched. These days I can rarely afford their stuff but treated myself to the Mineralize Skinfinish in Light on Friday as it was my birthday. I remember using this when it was first launched and recall that I liked it. However I think it's a bit "mehhhh" now. My Avon pressed powder at 4 quid does a better job at keeping my skin matte. The MAC powder seems to leave my skin looking very powdery no matter what brush I use to apply it. Hoping I can exchange it for something else as for £21 I am far from impressed...

I love Mac stuff- but only when I spend time with them and explain what I want then they match to it and I love everything done thus way eg primer eye base etc
When I chose myself its no better than other stuff do I conclude I chose wrong colour finish etc whereas they know what's best

Seriously - I love mac but sleek makeup eye palette are fantastic cheap alternatives - re ally augmented and blendable and cheap!!

I've gone off them since one of their PR monkeys stated that mumsnet posters "didn't fit what they wanted their demographic to be". Twas a few years ago and there was much outrage. I used to buy a fair bit there but they can feck off now. pokes tongue out

I love MAC. They have a really nice range of foundation. The blusher is brilliant. The lipstick and eyeshadow ranges are huge.

And yes to the spice lipliner up thread. I've been using it for years.

itchy that is outrageous! What they fail to realise is that is is the slightly older person that has the money to buy their make up!

I WANT to love Bobbi Brown but everything goes orangey on me. I had a very pink blush, PEONY it is called. The SA put it on me. Looked lovely. Bought it. Got home and it'd changed hue entirely.

Mac cream blushes are good. I also have some of their neutral eye products. But, their lippies smell vile and dh said "that stuff tastes revolting". Binned it, immediately.

Love mac for eyeshadows and eye primer. Just think nothing compare for quality and variety to be honest.
Their foundations though....jeez. I've been matched 3 bloody times to the wrong colour and consequently have 3 base products in my makeup bag that make me look orange. The lighting just seems so bad to me in their concessions? I've also had bad luck with 2 lipsticks in there- blardy awful granny colours they sold me. I think the SA's are hit and miss...some are brilliant and some are just young girls straight from beauty school without a clue who patronise the shit out of you because you dare to be wearing makeup over 30.

It's over-rated and plays on it's name now. Limited editions seem to be monthly and are nothing special.
I have a couple of lipsticks, one nude that I wear most days and powder and skinfinish but tbh I prefer my Clinique powder.
I do like the lipglasses though.

You can get some MAC cheaper at The Cosmetic Store oulets whch sell Estee Lauder brands. Today I saw some of the Christmas sets in the tartan tins for less than £28 and baving over ten pounds. They also sell some individual products.
