Can anyone find me a fab new haircut please?

I've got a lot of very fine dark brown hair that has a tendancy to look lank. It's also got a slight wave which seems to be incompatible with feathery type haircuts. My ideal haircut would be pretty low maintenance as I'm a wash and go type of person in the mornings. I don't use straighteners as I was out of the country when they became popular and have missed the point of them, but I'm happy to be convinced otherwise.

Whenever I give the hairdressers free rein, they always do something that will take me 45 minutes to get right every morning, even though I tell them it's got to be easy Angry. So please, oh wise and stylish MNetters, any ideas?

Hi FN!
Sounds like your hair is similar to mine. Currently have shoulder-length hair, with long layers shaped into cheekbones. Looks fab when I use straighteners on it - quite textured. Usually ask for ends to be razor-cut too.
Have you seen this month's good housekeeping - has a special on new hairdo's.
I've had my style for a while so am looking for a new one. This mag has given me an idea for my next one. Want long on top, shaped round face and cut into nape of neck. (Modern take on lady di I suppose [having a moment of doubt emoticon {grin] ]

Ooh I'll have to get that - they tend to have more practical cuts rather than specialist hair magazines IYKWIM.

Talk to me about straighteners - don't they just make lank hair even lanker (if there is such a word)?

You can buy special volumising sprays. I tend to work a small palm worth of mousse into the roots. Then I spend some time straightening the first 4-6" with my head between my legs (I always do my hair on the sofa with ds watching tv) before finishing the rest off upright. That way it seems to gain a bit of body and hang the right way. It takes me about ten minutes now I know what I'm doing. I'm sure the salon'll have lots of tips for you if you ask them.
I think the straighteners make my hair look less lank because it then doesn't just mould to the shape of my head, iykwim, and swishes nicely if I shake my head from side to side.

Hmm, I need a very patient hairdresser who's not going to laugh at me then Grin

Thanks for all your tips.
