Breastfeeding clothes...

They are so awful! Nasty and expensive!

Currently wearing vest tops and cardigans with jeans/linens and occasional strappy summer dresses when the rain lets up so I can pull the strap down and feed dd.

There must be something else I can wear which won't cost a fortune and looks stylish.

Help please!

I generally find pulling up a normal t-shirt to be more discreet than pulling down a top with straps/pulling aside a wrap top, because none of the top bit of your boobs is exposed, just the bottom bit the child is attached to and obscuring anyway.

I did like Rooti Tooti vests (you buy them online), although they're not cheap. I had just a couple that I could wear, say under a dress with leggings, so I could pull up the dress and be completely non exposed. They also work well with wrap tops, or as a layer with something more sheer. Basically just a sleeveless vest with two holes in the appropriate places!

I layer a t-shirt over a £2 Primark strappy vest. The t-shirt gets pulled up, the vest gets pulled down for access.

bedhog's two tops trick is the best advice. Someone suggested it to me when I was expecting DD1 4 years ago and I keep passing it on! Grin

Suddenly your whole wardrobe (or most of it!) comes back into play with just a few inexpensive tops!

Good plan thanks bedhog

Will get some vest tops and try layering. I would say July is too hot to wear 2 tops....Hmm

The best ones in Primark are the ones with spaghetti straps which adjust at the back. Easy to pull down the top, and the vests are long to cover post-baby tummies. Plus they come in loads of colours and cost £2. I've tried others but always come back to these. Smile

MurderOfProse · 31/07/2012 20:48

I second BedHog's advice - so much easier and more discreet!

OlivesTorchStreak · 31/07/2012 21:22

A third for Bedhog.

Buttons are useless and proper bf tops are vile.

Bongaloo · 31/07/2012 21:42

A few people have told me that wrap-around dresses are good.

  • I can't see it myself. I think I'd just totally unwrap and everyone would see everything!

4th Bedhog. I am layering 2 vests at the minute as it's quite warm.

I do the two tops trick too. However recently have got fed up and just wear one ordinary top and pull it up. If it's nt drapey enough and is showing a bit of the side of my stomach I just tuck a muslin over the gap.

Also if you have one of those pregnancy bump bands you can use it to pull up over your stomach if you're just wearing one top.

Thanks guys. Got some tops from primark and have been wearing them. It was really hot here yesterday so I only wore one and then did the muslin thing to hide my saggy belly skin!

It's funny, I have no issue with flashing a bit of boob. It's my flabby stomach I need to hide :)
