best SPF facial cream 30+

looking for a high factor cream that I can put on my face that won't leave it shiny and, well, looking like I've got sun cream on - very rarely put foundation on in the day/summer months, just a slick of mascara/blusher so needs to leave my face looking "normal" rather than a white greasy mess

I like the Clarins one. Not cheap, but feels like a face cream rather than a suncream IYSWIM

Lottapianos · 30/07/2012 12:45

Aah this issue! I have used Dermalogica Solar Defence Booster SPF30 - it's designed to be used with other products and you can either apply it on top of your normal moisturiser or mix it with your moisturiser. It's pretty good.

La Roche Posay Anthelios SPF 50 comes in a tinted form which I've heard great things about

MissWooWoo · 30/07/2012 12:52

yes this issue Smile I've been using a moisturiser with an SPF of 15 for years but now I'm in my early 40s and near the end of my bottle (not the same bottle you understand) I think it's time to start taking this skin wrinkling thing a bit more seriously

For daily car park to office type exposure I use Clinique city block which is SPF 40. I tend to use actual sun block if Im doing an outdoorsy thing as I am very prone to burn. However city block was unexpectedly put to the test when I was out all day at stone roses gig and it was sunnier than I had anticipated and I survived without a hint of red.

Lottapianos · 30/07/2012 13:03

On the sunniest days, I use Ultrasun SPF50 on face and neck and cleavage. I survived all last week in London without even a hint of pink, only applying once at 6.30am. It can make you look a little bit white, I wear BB cream and a little bit of bronzer over the top and it looks fine then.

MissWooWoo · 30/07/2012 13:13

yes I tried Ultrasun a few years ago on holiday - fine poolside but I too thought it was a bit on the white side for walking around town. Does Dermalogica Solar Defence Booster SPF30 leave a white residue?

I rate Le Roche Posay - hypo allergenic, doesn't make you shiny and oily and has excellent coverage.

MaloryMad · 30/07/2012 13:22

Absof is there a specific one by La Roche Posay that you can recommend? I looked in our local chemist last summer but there was a large choice and i got a a bit overwhelmed. I get a shiny nose very easily and I hate it.

I currently use a product by a US dermatologist, it's a good SPF30 sunscreen, it's slightly tinted like tinted moisturiser and it's great at keeping shiny noses at bay. Unfortunately I can no longer get hold of it here and I have a half tube left and am now desperate to find something as good.

The other thing I like, but it doesn't photograph well and can leave a white cast if you're not as pale as me Grin is from Korea or Japan and is called Bioré UV Perfect Face Milk. I get mine from a Hong Kong website. No shine at all but can be rather drying so def not recommended for dry skins. And it can be a b bugger to remove at night.

AbsofAwesomeness · 30/07/2012 13:26

This is the one I use, but in 30 SPF. I think all the other confusing ones are for the body.

If you know anyone, or go to France ever, buy it there as it is MUCH cheaper. You can get the stuff for the face for around EUR 10

Lottapianos · 30/07/2012 13:31

No, haven't noticed any white cast from Dermalogica

MaloryMad · 30/07/2012 13:34

Abs thanks very much. Great reviews too. Will give it a try. I do spend a lot of time in France and I've used other LRP skincare that I've bought there. Hadn't noticed the pricing on the sunscreen so will stock up next time I'm over the Channel.

Feature in www.dailymail.co.uk today about the "scam" of creams with SPF- suggest you read it.

In a nutshell, nothing you apply once at 8am in a small amount is going to protect your skin till 6pm.

Sun screen is supposed to be applied every 2hrs, and in a large dollop.

Read the feature!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 30/07/2012 15:19

The Clarins one is very good.

MissWooWoo · 30/07/2012 15:59

came across the article this morning PeterPan whilst looking for a new SPF moisturiser - prompted me to start the thread for something a bit more hardcore!

d'you think you could use the Le Roche Posay one everyday on top of a normal moisturiser?

Theres a powder one called colourscience (I think, gosh arent I helpfull) with spf 50 thats popular in america right now, I saw Tamra from RHOC using it on twitter.

You can get it here but on ebay from an american seller. It's in different shades but it wont make you look white. It's not mineral make up either from what I can tell.

I use clinique city block 40spf as it has higher antioxidants than the 25spf.

Notyouraveragenanny · 30/07/2012 17:03

I like the Skinceuticals range, they do an ultra facial defense moisturiser which is factor 50 and not at all greasy or pore clogging, never burn even when it was hot last week I was putting it on at 6.30am and that was it for the day.

piprabbit · 30/07/2012 17:08

I swear by Ultrasun - we've just come back from holiday with not a hint of sunburn, even on my fair-skinned toddler. I've been thinking about giving their Face 30 anti-ageing version a try for day-to-day use, but I've not found anyone who has tried it yet.

PeterPanandWendy · 30/07/2012 20:02

The thing is, you cannot see the damage your skin has had- if it turns red, then okay you are burnt. But lesser damage can still occur which is invisible until years later when you will develop age spots ad wrinkles. Just saying that you didn't turn red or burn does not mean the product is doing the job very well.

MadStaringEyes · 30/07/2012 20:45

MissWooWoo · 31/07/2012 09:49
