DS almost 4 has a couple of deep scars on his cheek and I was wondering if I could try anything? He's had them since he was about 18mo and no sign of them shifting yet :(

Iv been using bio oil on the scar on my sons cheek, not entirely sure it's working though it's only been a few weeks

berri · 28/07/2012 20:30

I do have some bio-oil, for some reason I thought I couldn't use it on kids - maybe I'm wrong...?

Oh god I never checked if it could or not just started slapping it on him Blush

DeeLinquent · 28/07/2012 20:33

It's not suitable for children under 2 sorry!! My Ds is 5 so im ok not a horrendous mother today Wink

Nuttyprofessor · 28/07/2012 20:39

The DS of a close friend had laser treatment on a scar, very effective.

trixymalixy · 28/07/2012 20:41

I have had steroid injections and laser treatment on a scar. It was very effective, but rather painful.

Those silicon gel sheets for scars are supposed to be good too.

berri · 28/07/2012 21:05

Gosh Dee hope you didn't think I was implying that!!

I haven't even heard of the laser treatment, might look into it but not holding out much hope of DS sitting still long enough...

Do you have to leave the silicon sheets on for long?

DeeLinquent · 28/07/2012 21:07

Haha no I didn't think that!!

trixymalixy · 28/07/2012 21:28

info on the scar sheets here.

trixymalixy · 28/07/2012 21:30

Oh and it would be cheaper to get them on prescription. It might be worth asking to be referred to a specialist.

MaryHansack · 28/07/2012 21:33

the bio oil sounds good, also any kind of cheap vitamin type moisturiser rubbed in daily (was told that by a max fax doc at GOSH)

Countrygirlatheart · 28/07/2012 21:56

Consultant recommended Dermatix silicon gel for dd after she got bitten on the face by a dog. We've used it for about 6 months and it has really reduced the scarring. You can get it prescribed or buy off amazon for about £25 for a 50g tube.

Springforward · 28/07/2012 22:08

I'd try BioOil too, I think.

brockthebadger · 28/07/2012 22:29

What about Heal Gel? Haven't tried it yet but on my list of things to buy when funds allow. I love Victoria Health.

ujjayi · 28/07/2012 22:58

I used Heal Gel on my tummy tuck scar. It is fabulous and my scar is very hard to detect now (which is great considering it is hip to hip)

berri · 28/07/2012 23:55

Thanks all, will look into all the suggestions. Smile

Aloe vera gel :)

catanddog · 29/07/2012 18:21

You could also try Vitamin E oil - I used it my self after adulthood chicken pox, and used it on my 2 DCS too, and seemed effective. I got Vitamin E capsules (the ones with the oil/gel inside) and then pierce them open and dab the oil on - has worked over here....
