I have a stupid belly that I need to get rid of. I am 5'10, have no idea how much I weigh but I'm a size 12. I would be perfectly happy with my body except since I had DS 2 years ago my belly just seems to always be big and sticks out over my jeans!

I never have anyone to look after DS so any exercise I do would have to be in my own home in the evening, or walking, which I do a lot of anyway.

Has anyone got rid of their mum-tum?? Is it possible without hours and hours in the gym?

Its Jillian Michaels workout dvd.

tittytittyhanghang · 28/07/2012 18:46

have you checked that you haven't split your tummy muscles? google diastasis recti, if you have this then most exercises will make you mum tum worse. I am 5'9, size twelve, and have this, tis depressing.

Hi just saw this thread and thought this might be worth a mention. A colleague of mine had a tummy tuck on the NHS after splitting those tummy muscles mentioned (I think). She said they had separated during pregnancy, she has quite narrow hips and carried very much to the front. The doc did ask if she had completed her family as he thought it would be inadvisable for her to become pg again.
Just thought I would mention....

Iggly · 28/07/2012 18:51

Yes I'd love to know the answer. After having two DCs my stomach is somewhat rotund Blush

I bought a pair of control pants for a wedding the other day Shock

CountBapula · 28/07/2012 18:54

I find control pants make my trousers fall down Blush

PacificDogwood · 28/07/2012 18:55

You need to look into the Tupler Technique - developed for diastesis recti, but v effective safe for any postpartum woman wanting to shape up.
Do not do traditional sit-ups, they can be rather unsafe.

Do you feel you need to lose weight or tone up?

I would kill to be 5'9'' and a size 12 btw Grin so am guessing toning up is the issue not overall wt loss?

Iwannamovenow · 28/07/2012 18:56

Google the Tuplar method, i've got the book... not got round to doing the exercises yet though, but it's supposed to work.

Check out Wendy Powell. She runs MuTu System. Not gym based. Diet and exercises. I would DEF recommend!!

I'd be happy if my trousers fell down Grin

I'm doing MuTu system, feeling the benefits already. It's only 15 mins a day so should be fine to fit in. It's based on Pilates so works on engaging your core rather than crunches that just make your belly more round. I have diastis (muscles moved apart when having both babies) never managed to lose it between number 1 & 2 but already starting to reduce & following the diet advice too. Defo a brilliant way to get into shape and feel good about yourself!

MummyLion73 · 28/07/2012 22:48

i second the MuTu system, you do it in your own time, it takes fifteen minutes only and my son joins in too. It's dead relaxed at your own pace and Wendy gives you no end of support, both during and after. You do have to pay for it and put in a bit of effort but trust me this is the best thing for mums, i never thought i'd get my body back and i have surprised myself. Look at mutusystem.com/ or tweet here @mutusystem , she's lovely and has an honest no nonsense but understanding approach to the whole mummy tummy dilemma.

Mustgettogym · 29/07/2012 05:11

Hmmmmmmm im doing (well i am yet to open my amazon package) the 30 day sheed....will also try MuTu after

Cherriesarelovely · 29/07/2012 09:52

I have also done MUTU, it's brilliant. Not only the flat stomach thing but the general philosophy of it, very positive and inspiring. Also great because you get connected with other mums also trying to get/stay in shape. Brilliant.

CandyCrate · 29/07/2012 10:35

thanks for the answers :)

in response to the person who asked if i wanted to tone up all over, not really! hehe i dont mind that my bum is bigger, or my thighs. its just my stupid belly. if it didnt hang over my jeans i think i would look about 2 dress sizes smaller, even if i wasnt!

its my birthday and the end of august, hoping to get rid of it by then (ambitious i know!) coz i always want to wear a nice dress out. but jersey material etc just clings to my belly and makes me look like a fatty!

i too have control pants which i wear under dresses, but i have just started seeing someone and i dont know if i want him to see the control pants!

Candy hate to say this, but you may never get rid of the saggyness of your belly (if that is what it is?) but you most certainly can get rid of the excess weight although it will be hard work. I am embarking on a belly blitz myself starting today. So far i have had my SF shake for breaky and have done 100 sit-ups and a 30 min cycle ride. Now i have no intention of doing a 30 min cycle ride everyday but i am aiming to do 200 sit ups per day. If you like i shall report back after a week to see if the intense sit up madness has made any difference?

CandyCrate · 29/07/2012 14:25

yes please! when i was a teenager i used to do 100 sit ups a day but i cant say i noticed the difference when i stopped. things may be a little different these days though!

i dont care if i never get proper abs. just dont want little belly sticking out!

OP posts:
puds11 · 29/07/2012 16:02

I can tell in my upper abs they look good aand are pretty hard, but my jelly belly covers the lower ones Blush Im still doing the sit ups though in the hopes that once ive shifted the weight, there will be abs underneath.

"rather than crunches that just make your belly more round"

They only do that if you are doing them incorrectly. You are supposed to hold your abdominal muscles in while you are doing them otherwise you will train your muscles to bow outwards.

Declutterbug · 29/07/2012 16:21

Are all flabby bellies post baby caused by these muscles separating Confused? I'm sure after DC1 I had no gap at all.
