Non-maternity supportive bras for breast feeding mother help needed!

I am sick to death of my breasts. I was a 34DD before pregnancy, but they're 36E now (might be larger, haven't measured myself since 8th month of pregnancy and DS is nearly 7 months now).

I am still breast feeding about 3-4 times during the day and I need something that will push back and lift. I don't know what will be okay for me or where to go. I can measure myself really well, so anything online will be ok too.

I don't know if I can wear wired bras whilst breastfeeding? I used to wear minimiser bras from M&S before pregnancy, which were a Godsend, as I am very top heavy and they made me look a bit normal. Don't think I can wear those whilst breastfeeding either :(

I'm sick of the nursing bras I have from mothercare: They don't support me at all, and I am getting depressed about my boob fat spilling everywhere. I haven't bought a new piece of clothing in a year because I hate my breasts (did I mention that already?!)

Can someone suggest something to make me feel a bit confident about myself again. Willing to spend upto £30 if it means having well supported pushed up/back breasts.

You can definitely wear underwire, it just needs to fit properly or you risk a blocked duct/mastitis.......... certain death :) depending on who you speak to.
Options
a)Go somewhere pricey and be fitted properly, then discover that you have oops forgotten your wallet and will have to come back later. Go home and find the right size and price online on Figleaves or equivalent.
If you buy online even with lingerie you have the RIGHT to return something so if it isn't comfy ship it back and try again.
b) up your budget and just go somewhere pricey.
c) treat yourself to something normal and nice and wear it between feeds out to dinner or something. Nursing bras are generically horrible and finish somewhere around your collarbone regardless of wiring and boob size. Don't waste your money on the holy grail.
d) try these .... very flattening effect in my underwhelming bosoms opinion www.johnlewis.com/30156/Product.aspx

well, these aren't quite what you asked for, but the royce charlotte nursing bra helped control my 34F boobs whilst feeding. I order from here who gave great service. They also have loads of other makes, and have decent sizes!

Hope you get supported soon - mothercare should stop selling bras above about a c sup - they are useless!

I had similar issues (30DD) - made do with ill-fitting Mothercare bras during pregnancy and whilst bf DS1 but then discovered HotMilk after DS2 was born. Had initially dismissed them as I thought the name in rather questionable taste but in desparation ordered a couple from www.NursingBra-Shop.co.uk and the quality and fit were in a different league to anything else I had come across and it gave me a real confidence boost when I needed it most. Think they are also available through Figleaves.

Thanks for the replies! Just had a look at the links you've all posted and those bras look about 100x more comfy than the shit I've been wearing for nearly a year.

I need to sit down tonight after putting children to bed and have a good search for something.

What about minimiser bras? Would they still be okay to wear for a couple of hours a day when out? I bottle feed when out, so wouldn't need to take breasts out.

If properly fitted they should be fine. When do you plan to stop feeding though, your boobs will reduce once you do. If it is relatively soon, then maybe best to save your cash.

I hope to stop both day feeds and night feeds before his 1st birthday next January, so still a few months left. I know they won't ping back this time, so am prepared for sagginess and extra skin which will no doubt increase my size :(

i'm evangelical about Anita microfibre underwired ones. I've fed two for knocking on four years in these. In fact i'd wear them if i wasn't feeding. not glamorous, but an amazing shape and the wire is special.

i'm now a 30dd but have had these in an F. the nursingbrashop.co.uk sell them. go a size up as they come small.

I know how you feel - nursing bras made me miserable!

I am a 32F and feeding my 21 month old twins. Most days I don't feed in the day as am at work, but i feed in the evenings (and all night, but no bra angst then!) and in the day at weekends.

I ditched the nursing bras when my two were about 14 months and I wish I'd done it earlier. I now wear a normal t-shirt bra - it is underwired and is slightly plunging in front (just low cut in front, not padded wonderbra type plunge!).

I lift the breast up out of the cup to feed and sort of roll the cup away under the breast. It does stress the bit where the cup joins the band at the front centre, but the two bras I bought in April are still fine and I can live with replacing them every six months or so to avoid the hell of unwired nursing bras!

There is a wired nursing bra out there somewhere, but I've only ever found it online and I am not confident about measuring so I e not tried it. I think it's called 'Anita' but I'm not sure who makes it.

HappyAsASandboy · 27/07/2012 19:52

Oops, cross post about the Anita!
