Fake tan and holidays?

midori1999 · 27/07/2012 08:20

I'm thinking of doing/having a fake tan for when we go on holiday in December. Mainly because I am really pale and my legs look like they belong to a much older person, with lots of broken veins/areas of discoloured skin and this is less obvious with a tan. (I am 35)

However, the last time I had a fake tan to go on holiday (it was a professional one, but not sure what make) it went all patchy after the first day or so and I had to scrub what was left of it off as best I could with a towel after showering and frankly, I looked like I had burned badly then peeled or something, it was dreadful! I thought it might be due to the chlorine in the pools or something?

Has anyone else had this happen? Is it likely to have just been a one off? I'd rather look plae than patchy!

I have this problem as well, it's the chlorine in the water and oil in sunscreen which affects the tan. You can preserve it by showering after swimming and using an oil free sunscreen.

I hate spending three days looking at my ghostly white stomach so will fake tan again. I'm not going to the salon this time - I'm thinking of trying Vita Liberata phenomenal (meant to last 2 weeks - but less if swimming probably) topped up with a daily self tan moisturiser. If things get patchy then I might slap on some more VL.

Looking forward to seeing some more replies.

I had one last year and it was fab - I think it was Hollywood Tan. I had to scrub it off after a week but by then I had a bit of a tan. I went in teh pool a little and used P20. Make sure you stand on something so you don't end up with black feet.

Vita liberata is great, I have the mousse on on holiday right now and while it is fading faster than it claims (I am using sun tan lotion and body lotion after showers which apparently you aren't supposed to do - not swimming though, I am on a British beach Grin), it is fading very evenly which is most important.

It was also super quick and easy to apply too, I did it in 10 mins using mitts, no smell and absorbs almost instantly so you don't have to waft about drying before dressing. Caution - use mitts otherwise you will end up with brown palms because it sinks in so fast!

It is worth using the st tropez daily moisturiser as after sun

You must must exfoliate really well before you have the tan applied. Otherwise the tan will just stick to the dead skin cells that are about to shed which may cause patchiness.

The St Tropez or Fake Bake exfoliators are good.

Thanks. I'm always really careful about exfoliating before a fake tan and use the St. Tropez one as I use St. Tropez tan when I occasionally do it myself at home.

I don't really want to have to apply fake tan whilst on holiday, I'm happy if it wears off after a few days or so as long as it comes off evenly and not patchy.

A local salon do either St. Tropez spray on or the lotion type of St. Tropez with exfoliant first. If I go for the latter, should it be OK? I don't mind using exfoliant and moisturiser on holiday.

Vita liberata is a better colour and fades very evenly. I am 2 weeks in and it still looks good if a bit light. I only applied once and have been exfoliating every other day and its still even.

Midori it's not worth the hassle IMO

No matter how much you exfoliate, your shoes rub bits off, and your bra etc

Be pale until you get a natural colour!

noddyholder · 27/07/2012 09:51

I have been in the sun this week and the VL doesn't budge seriously impressed as have seen the wearing off etc with heat but this is very good. Have also been in sea and on beach and the sun kind of topped it up and it looks very real. I have noticed that too with sandals so annoying and grubby looking but not with this

ILikeMagicMike · 27/07/2012 09:55

Also, if you've got the St Tropez exfoliator and you decide not to get the fake tan, it will help you to get a good colour from the sun if you use it regularly (as long as you use a good protective SPF). Also their lotion is great as an aftersun as noddy pointed out.

I scrub with one of those awful scrunchy things you get in the 99p shop andjust use baby soap on it.

racingheart · 27/07/2012 10:04

All the Vita Liberata fans - I just had a look online and they seem to have a massive range of products and prices. Which would be best for a long lasting tan for a very white skinned person who will be in the pool a lot, does anyone know?

Thank you.

I have used the sheer silken mousse with a mitt HTH. I didn't read the instructions and think if i had done it twice it would have been amazing but it is still good
