Staying cool in wedding dress

I'm getting married next weekend and picked up my wedding dress from the alterations place today. It's gorgeous. Gorgeous I tell you. But, oh wow, it's hot! Because the weather has been so rubbish I'd completely failed to make the connection that I'm getting married in August and have gone for a tight fitting, fully lined dress. Shit! I almost passed out just trying it on for five minutes.

Any top tips for staying cool?

At our reception the managee's wife placed a big bowl of ice covered with cling film and a tea towel. She then advised me that once sat down take my shoes off and rest my feet on the bowl - it was bliss

The weather is about to cool - don't worry. Otherwise run cold water over risks

wrists even!

I cant possibly offer any tips until I have seen a pic of said dress.

Sorry watching TV too - placed the bowl under the table

Mini Evian spray to be carried by bridesmaid.

Or relocate wedding to Glasgow where it has rained more or less non stop since the schools broke up.

More risk of trench foot than heatstroke here.

Have a lovely day.

Hahah. I knew someone would ask to see <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=donna+lee+ginger&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1241&bih=584&tbm=isch&tbnid=IWmjNHTOK0Tc1M:&imgrefurl=daphnebridals.com/53399/DonnaLeeDesignGinger.aspx&docid=ONQ5e2ZEtMXSLM&imgurl=daphnebridals.com/GetPicBig.aspx%253FKSort%253D53399&w=375&h=563&ei=nLQRULLKNKbB0gXgooCQDA&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=99&vpy=107&dur=28&hovh=275&hovw=183&tx=96&ty=106&sig=111160479091000397156&page=1&tbnh=130&tbnw=100&start=0&ndsp=24&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0,i:73" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">the dress. Great name too Mike Grin

Loving the iced bowl idea, not so keen on the trench foot...

No underwear, just knickers. Get 3 pairs the same so you can change them a few times through the day.
A pretty handheld fan.
An umbrella to stand in the shade of during photo set ups, waiting around etc.
Access to an electric fan that you can blow up your dress. So in your bedroom, if your venue is a hotel.
Minimal alcohol and keep well hydrated with water.
Wrists under running water and the ice bowl for feet to rest on sound wonderful too.

Hair up if it's long

PurplyWurply · 27/07/2012 00:27

Your dress is absolutely beautiful!!! I love it.

Magicool works wonders on a hot day.

MikeLitorisRings · 27/07/2012 17:30

That is beautiful OP.

Lovely dress

I got married on a sweltering day.

No tights. Remove shoes whilst seated at the meal. Hair up.

Cotton knickers (forget any fancy lace/satin ones you bought - change into them later if you can be arsed, I couldn't). A change of knickers is a good idea.

Every so often, lift the hem of your dress to allow hot air out and cool air in.
