Oh good grief I just love oils - they are my best cosmetic friend!

I have dry, sensitive skin which is prone to flakiness and scaliness on my T-zone. I've been using the Oil Cleansing Method for 6 months and skin has never looked better - glowing and healthy and scales have all gone!

I have extremely dry, curly hair which is prone to frizz, especially at the end. The other day I shoved a load of olive oil on my soaking wet hair from mid-length to ends, added some leave-in conditioner and let it air dry. I looked in the mirror this morning and actually gasped - hair looks so shiny, lovely defined curls and not a hint of frizz.

And best of all, oil is cheep (like the budgie Wink) and a natural product so you're not filling your face with chemicals and other sludge.

Any other oily success stories?

I need to look into this. I can't find a cleanser that doesn't irritate my skin. How do you do the oil cleansing method? What oil do you use? Agree cheap cosmeticry is most pleasing!

(just realized I haven't really contributed, just asked questions - sorry!)

kitty, welcome to a whole new world! What sort of skin do you have - dry, oily, combo? Different oils are suitable for different skins. I have combination skin which is also sensitive and the dry parts are very dry indeed. Here's what I do:

  • I have used either olive, avocado or sunolive oil, all were equally good for me. Apparently jojoba is the stuff for oily skin
  • Pour out little puddle of oil into your palm and apply to face, throat and cleavage
  • Massage gently all over for at least 2 minutes, longer if you can
  • Then rinse a flannel/muslin out in hand-hot water, wring out and drape over your face
  • leave in place until it has cooled (to open pores) then gently wipe oil off face, taking dead skin and makeup and other grit with it
  • Repeat the flannnel bit once or twice
  • Close pores with cold water or rosewater

I only do this in the evening, I just give my face a wipe with rosewater on cotton wool in the morning. I can't recommend it enough - have a google if you need more info because I am no expert and there is loads of info out there! Smile

Ooh. Sounds good. I think I have combination skin. Is very pale and delicate looking but the bit around my nose gets a bit pore-y. I get a few spots sometimes.

I have curly/fuzzy hair too. Considered using oil on it but thought maybe this would make it greasy.

Where can all the oil and rosewater be got?

Lottapianos · 26/07/2012 11:57

kitty, I buy my rosewater in Asian grocers for 79 English pence a bottle You can get avocado oil in Sainsburys, olive oil or sunflower oil in any supermarket. I just use the same stuff you would use for cooking or dressing your salad!

Oil on hair has been fine so long as you don't apply to the roots (midlength to ends only) and apply it to soaking wet hair, then apply any extra gel/conditioner you fancy and wrap in a towel for 10-15 minutes.

Have just been on a little sortie around my neighbourhood but cannot find rosewater. Have avocado oil though! I have just run out of face wipes so this is good timing. Have always been slightly uncomfortable with leaving all those 'chemicals' (I know everything is a chemical) on my skin overnight.

Googling has led me on to the no-shampoo thing...

Can you tell I'm not working at the moment?!

Lottapianos · 26/07/2012 15:37

Step away from the facial wipes, kitty! They are evil!

Don't worry about the rosewater, cold tap water will be just fine. If you have an old spray-type bottle lying about, you could clean it out, fill with tap water and put in fridge and then apply the toning water as a mist for an extra bit of lushness Wink

Avocado oil is gorgeous stuff - enjoy!

I know, I hate how when I use one before bed all the chemicals sit on my skin and make it feel all tacky and smell all artificial. Thought was necessary evil but apparently not.

My skin has never looked better since starting the OCM.

I use extra virgin olive oil for cleansing then Argan oil as a moisturiser. I just wish I had discovered it earlier in life!

kittyfishersknickers · 27/07/2012 16:59

Well, I did OCM last night and it was great! I swear my skin looked cleaner and clearer immediately. Also felt v. nice. Looking forward to doing it again tonight... I used 2/3 castor oil and 1/3 avocado oil

Lottapianos · 28/07/2012 12:45

Yay kitty! Glad it went well Smile
