Okay. Something is WRONG with my hair. No matter how thoroughly I wash it, it's becoming horrible and greasy almost as soon as it's dry. Could it be a problem with my shampoo/conditioner? I've been using a cheapo tea-tree set for about four months now due to it soothing my very itchy scalp, but I've noticed that's returned as well this past week, but part of that could just be the greasiness.

I don't normally give a stuff about my hair as it's so difficult to do anything with, but I just got notification that I have a job interview in three weeks so I need it to look at the very least clean and tidy Grin I'm not sure exactly what sort of information would help, but any sort of advice is appreciated!

Is it possible you could have dermatitis or something like that? My friend has it and it causes her scalp problems and her hair is a bit temperamental as well.

What sort of hair do you have? (Fine, curly, afro?)

ScarletLadyOfTheNight01 · 21/07/2012 08:22

Oh just to add, it could quite possibly be your shampoo/conditioner. Maybe try a different one for greasy hair and see if it helps? Alberto Balsam is very cheap (and good) so it might be worth a try without paying over the odds for something that makes no difference.

Do you have dandruff? That can cause an itchy scalp and often is more problematic for people with oily hair. My son uses Vosene anti dandruff shampoo daily and his hair looks a lot better now, very little dandruff and no more greasy hair. He's tried other anti-dandruff shampoos but they didn't work as well and made his hair even more oily. He doesn't use conditioner but if you feel your hair needs it perhaps apply to the ends of your hair (if you have long hair) rather than on the scalp.

Alberto Balsam is the one I'm using! -just went to check- I used to have dandruff, but this shampoo cleared that up as well. Was rather impressed, as it was four bottles for three pounds when I bought it.

I've got very thick (VERY thick, hairdressers always go "my, isn't there a lot of it!") hair that isn't really curly but definitely isn't straight Grin

I've heard that thing about only conditioning the ends of your hair before, might try that.

Maybe try another "flavour" so to speak?

My hairdresser says you only need to condition the ends really anyway, especially if your hair is oily. Have you tried a dry shampoo? I've heard they can be quite good for oily hair. Lush do them. It might be worth checking out their hair care range anyway - they can be great for "problem" hair/skin.

It sounds like you have product buildup and you need to use a clarifying shampoo and do a baking soda in water rinse to remove residue. Then get a few different shampoos and rotate them. Hair gets fed up of the same thing after a while and this is why after a few months previously good shampoos stop working.

Try vosene it soothes my scalp and is very deep cleaning. Use a light silicone-free conditioner on your ends but not your scalp. Maybe the Tresseme naturals conditioner.

Try L'Oreal Elvive -dark blue bottle with orange lid, on sale in Boots. WIll sort your itchy scalp out and your hair will be in fab condition.

Not all shampoos build up and need changing, I do agree many do that though. I've been using the Aussie shampoo and conditioners for about 6+ years now and haven't needed to change, hair still looks great and healthy. Previously I used other brands and did find a need to keep changing every so often.

Aussie stuff is amazing...their leave in conditioner has single handedly saved my bleach fried hair
