Bronzer that won't make me orange

I'm fair skinned but would like a subtle bronzer to wear over my full coverage foundation to make me look a bit more natural. I have a dior one that is supposed to be for pale skin but it still makes me orange, no matter how little I apply. Has anyone found a subtle one for pale skin? I would rather it wasn't too expensive - I liked the look of a bobbi brown shimmer brick copy by boots 17 but they don't have any in my local store.

Try and find something that is the colour you go when you've had a bit of sun, so it might be a rosy one rather than a goldeny/tan one

I like bare minerals all over face colour but I use a pinky one because my face doesn't go brown!

Guerlaine do bronzers based on you colouring. Go to your nearest counter and try the blonde one. That's what I got for my pale skin.

Try Nars Laguna at a space NK too

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/07/2012 16:40

Go to clinique and try their powders for dark skin, Newby Hands (harpers beauty editor) advised doing this because they are not glittery or orange toned.

SugarBatty · 20/07/2012 16:42

Like that idea fluffy! Benefit do a good one called hula and bobbi brown do them in shades I think.

Shesparkles · 20/07/2012 16:43

I use Bourjois bronzer and find the colours great. They're matt so you don't get the shine that you get with most others

ggirl · 20/07/2012 16:43

Guerlain do a fab one but it's not cheap

Bourjois also do a nice one.I use it and I don't look orange...perish the thought !

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/07/2012 16:43

Newby has never let me down yet.

Thanks for the suggestions ladies, I will be having a look for these.

That No17 shimmer brick thing is crap, I wouldn't bother. Looks cheap and nasty.

This is the holy grail for me as well, I used to have a Lancome bronzer which was great but they discontinued it. Will look at the Guerlain and Bourjois ones.

Avoid anything shimmery, and as someone said, just buy a regular pressed powder in a shade that matches the natural shadows on your face (beneath the jaw, sides of nose etc. MAC have a blusher called Harmony that I've seen YouTubers use for bronzing and contouring - maybe worth a try?

anniewoo · 20/07/2012 18:16

I agree with fluffycloudland re Neeby Hands ( harpers) . I always feel you can trust her advice, it's not just marketing s*e like so many other beauty editors articles in magazines. We need more like Newby who tell it like it is... Just like the great Mumsnetters who post here. LIck Lick Wink

Second vote for NARS Laguna. I'm pale and it's the best bronzer I've ever bought. It's expensive but worth it.

Sheldonella · 21/07/2012 10:37

Thanks for all these suggestions ladies. I will definitely be looking at borjois, guerlain and the nars laguna, I love nars.

cybbo I like the rosy colour suggestion, I didn't think of that.

getorf thanks for the warning about the 17 brick, I don't like wasting money.

Also noticed some no7 bronzing pearls that look fairly subtle.

Have just bought a Maybelline one in Tesco this aft. Will report back on orangeness tomorrow.

LurkeyLurkerson · 22/07/2012 20:24

I'm quite pale and I like this Too Faced one It has the pink and lighter brown in it so I don't go orange, plus it lasts ages (both on my face and in my make-up bag)

Eliza22 · 22/07/2012 20:54

I have Mac Tan Tint. It's a cream with no shimmer. Had it over a year and you need so little that, it'll last forever. Not sure if it was limited edition, though.

I've left traditional powder bronzers/blush behind, cause I'm nearly 50 and it looks softer. Smile

justabigdisco · 22/07/2012 20:56

Sorry to hijack thread but can anyone explain to me the difference between bronzer and blusher, and why do I need both? I use blusher but never had bronzer. Am also fair and blonde.

KatoPotato · 22/07/2012 21:42

Another vote for benefit hoola... It's matte and lovely and build able and not orange!

singaporeswing · 22/07/2012 22:27

Yup, also a vote here for NARS Laguna. Next time I hit the Duty Free, I'm going to try the new Dior Nude bronzer, it's meant to be amazingly natural.

stayfree · 22/07/2012 22:52

vote for Benefit's Hula here and i'm quite fair skinned. Got given it in a pack one christmas and thought it was quite expensive to buy on its own but tbf it's lasted over a year and still loads left so probably worth it. Mind you i only tend to use bronzer in the summer and blusher in the winter.

kerstina · 26/07/2012 14:05

This thread has inspired me to buy a bronzer as I have never worn one before.
I was going to buy the Nars, Benefit or Clinique one but I could not justify the money on something I may not like. So I have got the Acessorise one it looked fine on my arm anyone else tried it. Very cheap at £6.00 Smile

Fourfingerkitkat · 26/07/2012 19:01

Narks is good, so is benefit Hoola however for those on a budget Soap and Glory's bronzer is great. £10 from boots. Dark shade on one side, lighther shade on the other and no tacky glitter.....

kerstina · 26/07/2012 19:07

I must be the only one who actually appreciates a bit of sparkle. If you look at skin in sunlight it naturally looks like it has specks of tiny glitter in.
