Help me wise ones! I have a patch of dry skin on my face and I am starting to notice my skin is changing (ageing!) I was thinking of getting a facial oil. Clarins? Liz Earle? Something else?

Jojoba oil is closest to skins natural sebum. I've been using it for 10 years as a moisturiser and no big wrinkles yet!

KittieCat · 20/07/2012 12:17

Boring, I know, but Waitrose Baby Bottom Butter is brilliant. It is 'natural' (although bring on the synthetics if they stop me looking like a crone) and contains only olive oil, hydrogenated olive oil, vanillin and chamomile oil.

Clearly it is not an oil per se but I love it!

MissFoodie · 20/07/2012 12:49

ladies, of course things are absorbed via skin into blood stream, hence nicotine, methadone, fentanyl patches have been invented

as well as parabens of course which are regularly found in biopsies...

obviously all within reason, certain parts of the body absorb more than others (eg armpits)

anyway, what you spend is up to you, you can go cheapo and buy plain sweet almond oil for a quid or go up to £100, I have reviewed dozens, it just depends on your skin and what you like!

here are my recs:

Almond oil or Rosehip is lovely.

aquavit · 20/07/2012 13:17

the waitrose bottom butter is great for oil cleansing method - tis just olive oil with some vanilla and camomile for scent, isn't it?

for overnight use I really rate the sanctuary one, called therapist's secret or something like that, leaves my skin v soft, cheaper than many and you can use one of those £5 vouchers when they come up

also like NYR neroli and rose oils cos they smell so nice but tbh the sanctuary one gives better results on me

I use an oil and then moisturise on top otherwise dry patches can stay a bit dry

jalopy · 20/07/2012 14:23

How does Liz Earle superskin oil compare with the products mentioned so far?

MissFoodie · 20/07/2012 14:48

I really liked it, but it's a personal thing, you could always try a sample size?

Bucharest · 20/07/2012 19:08

I have just started on LE Superskin oil (only 2 days ago) after being persuaded by the reviews in the Beauty Bible. Smells mucho lovely indeed, but too early to tell re results of course.
Previously I have tried Decleor Neroli and Iris, prefer the neroli.
I was going to try the NY Rose (after Mosschops recommendations) and might give that a go idc.
I do love oils!
Miss Foodie, been looking for the link to your recs for a few days, so I'll mosey along now. You being one of my gurus an'all. Grin

I love oils, particularly Decleor ylang ylang.
I fancied trying AD Skin Synergy oil which gets great reviews but I decided to try & make my own. Im using Rosehip and Argan as a base then ylang ylang, bergamot, may Chang, lavender & geranium essential oils. Hopefully it will be balancing/ help with scars & pigmentation :)
Has anyone else tried their own?

jemima - I was very tempted to do that this morning but I am too ignorant and as I have quite sensitive ageing skin I am reluctant to try anything that might be too strong. I think I will get some argan oil with frankinsense as that seems a good combination from what I have read.

JemimaPuddle · 20/07/2012 20:05

Ormiriathomimus I've no idea what I'm doing really! Have done a bit of googling and hopefully won't make it too strong, 1 or 2 drops of the EOs I think. Luckily I have skin of a rhino so doubt I'll react. Fingers crossed.

flowwithit · 20/07/2012 20:21

Any ideas for oily skin.
I've used decleor yang yang which is lovely. I'd like to find cheaper oil that won't clog pores cause spots or make me more oily please.

JemimaPuddle · 20/07/2012 20:36

flowwithit I get my decleor Ylang ylang oil from Cheapsmells still not cheap at 24.50 but loads better than the £40 I paid in House of Fraser for it!
As for something else, there seem to be lots of oils that are good for oily skin, sweet almond oil & jojoba are recommended & you can add essential oils to address issues & to make them smell nicer :)

flowwithit · 20/07/2012 21:27

Wow thanks that's a great price!
