Have a problem with it and lets just say have had this problem for many years. If I had to phrase it I would say its almost a form of Body dysmorphic disorder perhaps not to the same degree but anyway. I don't like it touching my face and if it gets to a point where I think it wants cutting that's it, it has to be done even if it really doesn't need it. The only way I can deal with it and have some quality of life is have it cut very very short and I mean short.
Problem is I've had this style since for about 20 odd years but can't see how I can get past the problem. And I hate it because I never get the oh you've had your hair done, its nice comments because it can't look nice - it just gets a short back and sides effectively as that is what I can live with.
does anyone else have similar issues or is it just me?
I suspect this stems from bullying at school over hair colour - its red.

I don't have any experience so can't offer any direct help.

Have you ever tried therapy? It sounds from your post that you don't choose to live this way and you'd like an alternative solution so perhaps having some one to discuss it with IRL might be a positive starting point.

I have had really short hair since I was 7(am now 47) and it truly doesnt suit me long and like you it also drives me crazy round my face but what I have been doing for the past few years is first of all having the usual very short cut etc and then when it starts to get too long I tuck the over-ear bits behind my ears and sort of flick out the end bits at the back with some wax etc and have an overall more casual look for another month or so. I dont know if this makes any sense to you or not but it is the only way I achieve a slightly different look with really short hair.Hope this helps a bitConfused

OP, i know how you feel. I've been there. The desperate urge for a hair cut now. Getting it cut at a barbers because they do short hair and you don't need an appointment. The growing out bit is awful. The sticky out bits, the bumpy bits, the overall ugh of it all. coby gives good advice. I did eventually grow mine out, and got it just past my shoulders, I'm back to a chin length bob which is better for me. It really does look better than the short crop.

My best friends while growing it were gel/ wax, plain, hair-coloured grips to hold it down, and narrow hair straighteners for taming it once it got a bit longer. A trim and a tidy with a sympathetic hair dresser every 8 weeks (more often and it doesn't grown, less and it looks awful) and some funky colour to take the attention of the horror of the style. I went from short crop to chin length in less than a year. I found keeping the back pretty short and growing the front worked well. Once the front is over the tops of your ears you are only a few months away from a graduated bob. Keeping the back short keeps the whole thing looking neat and sleek and not hedgehoggy.
