Where is your capsule wardrobe?

Welcome ideas on the basics as I am a bit clueless and don't have time to browse. I would love to just get the basics right and know which shop suits my shape and style.

So, I like whistles stuff but it is so expensive. I am turning 40 this year and have lost my way between Boden and hobbs which seem so staid. Used to go to John Lewis as it had all brands but don't have one near me.

Help me! Even tried m and s today with the grannies.

John Lewis online is good.
They deliver promptly, their packaging includes hangers and dress/coat covers, I know that's incidental but it keeps the clothes in good condition in my wardrobe.
Also try Reiss, LK Bennet, The Kooples, House Of Fraser, Great Plains, French Connection.
Occasionally Republic, Top Shop, H & M.

We sound similar in age/style etc so i hope this isn't patronising, but this is what I'm going for.....

Capsule wardrobe - casual (autumn/winter)

2 x good quality pairs of jeans (pref. in different styles, spend some money on this if you can, Not Your Daughters Jeans are great)
1 x casual but smart white shirt
2 x other colour shirts
5 x t-shirts, at least one black and at least two in good colours which suit you.
2 x casual dresses (that you can wear with tights/boots/pumps)
2 x cardigans (one of these should be baggier and go well with dresses, one more fitted, maybe in a brighter colour)
2 x casual jumpers
1 x casual leather boots (I like Gabor)
1 x casual pumps
1 x trainers (Converse/fashion trainer)

Any use?

lizbee156 · 14/07/2012 20:22

Sorry - also a blazer type jacket for smarter casual.

lizbee156 · 14/07/2012 20:26

I should have said I shop around, mostly online using a list.
John Lewis has most of it though.

rubyblue · 14/07/2012 21:14

Hi lizbee this list is great! Thank you. I don't know what style suits me. Well, I know that I am pear shaped and have hip, bum and tum to hide! Went shopping today and it was depressing. Trying to find trousers to fit.

What style of dresses do you suggest?

I don't do capsuleBlush!

Have you thought about getting your "colours done", so that you know which sorts of colours to choose? It really helps avoid buying clothes that ought to look great, but end up looking terrible on.

Cremolafoam · 14/07/2012 21:32

Have you tried Dressipi - fun website that suggests clothes for your shape
dressipi.com/

BonnieBumble · 14/07/2012 21:33

Marking my place.

rubyblue · 14/07/2012 21:34

Yeah, had colours done a couple of years ago and I am warm colours. So black looks terrible near my face but navy or brown or orange, maroon looks fine.

This site is good for capsule wardrobe ideas and body shape analysis and tips here. The specific shops mentioned might not be much good-it's an Australian site.

Cremolafoam · 14/07/2012 23:33

I am an O

MrsS3 · 14/07/2012 23:37

I really shouldn't post this... But if you want a smirk at me - my "capsule wardrobe" is in a heap on my bedroom floor. It won't fit in my wardrobe because if all the other sh%23t I never wear that's taking up all the space Blush

thatlldopigthatlldo · 14/07/2012 23:41

Grin at MRsS3.

i had the same problem today finding space for my new capsular work wear wardrobe. after picking up my floordrobe, i had to shove all the old crap over to make space.

stuff is going to have to go.

Cremolafoam · 14/07/2012 23:44

I have colour coded my wardrobe in the style of the upmarket charity shopGrin

Shh2012 · 15/07/2012 00:02

Not Your Daughters Jeans (John Lewis, mentioned earlier) are GREAT for tums and bums and thighs . Not cheap but fabulous.

TheMightyMojoceratops · 15/07/2012 00:08

Dressipi is good, though I think it is aimed at those with a greater budget for clothes than I!
