INVISALIGN and London dentists please- few questions.

Thinking of having this, Saw a dentist locally- Home Counties- but didn't really "click". He took impresions but said he was unable to tell there and then if I'd need any extractions (overcrowding.)

*Is this right? Do the moulds have to be sent to the US before they can tell about extractions?

*How often do the braces need changing- is it every 2 weeks or once a month?

*Does anyone know a very good dentist in central London who they would recommend- and costs. Was quoted around £3K before. I'm talking very central- W1 etc for easy access.

Hiya, I had invisalign; in my experience the dentist took impressions sent them off to the US and he admitted to me that he just did whatever the Invisalign people told him. The dentist you see is not very hands on at all - it all goes through to the US and they do all the work, the UK dentist just supervises. I changed braces every 2 weeks I think as long as by the end of that 2 weeks the braces felt "comfy" if not I was told I could keep that brace in until it was comfy (I wore all mine for 2 weeks only). Mine cost about 3K too outside of London

Thanks alot.

I suppose I was wary of signing up for something not knowing if I'd need extractions or my teeth filing down.

My daughter went for a consultation for Invisalign, advertised for £2000 on out local orthodontist's website. After the consultation (£120) she was told it would be £5000 and that she would need normal braces first. Her teeth are only marginally out of line. She was not impressed!
Does Invisalign work long term? I would also be interested in an orthodontist in London, where my daughter now lives.

That sounds very odd. I was told that my teeth were " moderate to severe" (great) bu that Invisalign would work- but could take 2 years.

I was referred to the guy by my usual dentist who does't do orthodontics. She however says there is no long term study yet of Invisalign and it is possible that the teeth will move back.

Yes thinking about it I knew I wouldn't need an extraction before I committed to spending; my initial consultation was free i believe. Teeth are still fine and I've been wearing my retainer at night since I finished in 2009. I think in theory teeth can move after any type of treatment unless you wear a retainer at night or have a fixed brace on the back of the teeth (this was an option I didn't want)
