I looked like the childcatcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!! Don't have great skin so needed a certain amount of foundation but the woman couldn't understand why I was horrified. Don't normally wear foundation as I have a lot of open pores and it tends to 'sit' but I felt totally ridculous, got her to re-do it with less but still looked like a pantomine dame! She said that I would need this amount to give a good 'finish' and things like tinted moisturiser would work. Any ideas?

Benefit do a kind of balm thing in a pot you put on pre foundation that helps to minimise open pores and shininess (Dr Feelgood). Also TM a good idea as you look better wout looking made up-Body Shop do a good one so do Bourjois. Try www.makeupalley.com for loads of product r/vs of foundations etc

I went for a test run for my make up at a local hotel spa in the run up to my wedding last year. The room we were in was mood lit so was quite dim and when I looked at my make up I thought it was fine apart from the lipstick, I walked through the hotel feeling really good (that just had a new hair cut feel) on to the main road and called DH to come and pick me up. I was stood there for about 10 mins waiting and got a few funny looks but thought nothing of it, DH pulled up and I got into the car, he looked at me and nearly fell out of the door on his side he was so shocked/scared by what he saw.

I looked in the mirror in the car and it was horrific, I hid my face all the way home. DH couldn't stop laughing.

I did my own make up needless to say what my mum said was true DH is marrying me for me so I shouldn't try and be someone else on our wedding day.

I went to a 'proper' salon and the lighting was appauling. She kept saying just tilt the mirror coz the lights bad in here. Ended up strolling around different treatment rooms and eventually ventured into reception to get better light!

Anyway, been to Boots, got the L'oreal stuff, wish I'd hung around for the advice on which colour eyebrow pencil coz I went for black! Oh well, off to the bathroom to experiment so to speak!

hah - I had my wedding makeup done at the same place as my hair (both excellent - had a test run and people told me I looked well or had I been on holiday, not orange!)

But the only place in the salon with decent light at the time in the morning I was there was right in the window. So I sat virtually in the street with every market trader in Oxford gawking at me as the poor girl worked on my face.

I laugh about it now...
