Shoes that I can run after a 2-year old in to wear with this dress

cardamomginger · 12/07/2012 12:22

Long time lurker in Style and Beauty and thought it was time for my first question Smile.

Have a family wedding later this year and have bought this:

www.mintvelvet.co.uk/black-bandage-dress/dresses/mint-v/fcp-product/2238 (yes, I can wear black, yes it's OK, no the bride doesn't mind and I expect others will wear black too!)

Still have to think about a shrug/cover up, but also need to think about shoes. I need to be able to deal with 2-year old DD, so the ability to run would be nice.

I am a size 8 and 5 ft 7. I am wondering whether I can get away with flats, but I don't want to kill the dress with frumpy. I had a very tough time of it after having DD and this will be my first family event since her birth (we had to miss 2 weddings because I was too ill to attend). Comfort is important, but it is really important that I look as good as possible - I want reactions to be 'WOW! Cardamom looks FAB!!!' Not, 'Poor Cardamom, she's had such a tough time....'

Thoughts, ladies??

X

Wow thats a nice dress but I just dont think flats would go with it...sorry! Maybe someone will come along though with a nice flat and prove me wrong :)

cardamomginger · 12/07/2012 12:26

I look IMPOSSIBLY good in it - even when I tried it on in the shop with hairy legs and bright red socks. It doesn't need a heel to 'lift' it on me to get better proportions, IYSWIM.

And it is washable.... It is an amazing dress.

Thats a lovely dress..i want! Sorry im not good on shoes..a kitten heel or wedge perhaps?

LtheWife · 12/07/2012 12:41

No help on the shoe front I'm afraid, but have to agree it's an amazing dress! I bought the same one in grey a couple of years ago in the sale and love it. It's even survived my DH putting it through the tumble drier on high heat! Might just have to buy it in black.

cardamomginger · 12/07/2012 12:52

Yup - I wanted something where snot, vomit, and smears of various foods/other nameless substances could easily be washed out!

I thinking about getting These As I think they could be worn to a wedding to chase after my 18 month old and would be nice afterwards too.
I think they might go with your dress which is lovely.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 12/07/2012 14:01

Card Yes those would work...there are some lovely wedges out there and they would look much better than flats.

Haz - I dont like them at all, not with that dress anyway - ok with nice jeans though :)

jammiecat · 12/07/2012 14:04

Why not go with a dressy Mary Jane, better than heels for chasing a toddler but dressier than a flat.

Perhaps www.amazon.co.uk/Hush-Puppies-Dollie-Black-Patent/dp/B008CGQBTI/ref=sr_1_3?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1342097749&sr=1-3

Or www.amazon.co.uk/Hush-Puppies-Womens-Patent-H25597001/dp/B004CJ9ASS/ref=sr_1_1?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1342098072&sr=1-1

I have the latter shoes and they're really comfortable.

p.s. Love your dress.

cardamomginger · 12/07/2012 15:13

A Mary Jane is not a bad idea.

What about this as a wedge:

www.zappos.com/kors-michael-kors-vail-black-kid-suede

I love these:

www.katekuba.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=13684

But I will not be able to run in them Sad.

Hi Carda.

Firstly, I vaguely remember some of your posts re your dd's birth - I really hope you're ok. I also have a 2year old dd (currently watching Peppa Sodding Pig AGAIN).

I'm going to a wedding next month, actually started a similar thread yesterday "can you wear black to a wedding?". Love your dress btw! I've bought this www.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-Occasion-Dress-with-Pleat-Detail/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=2221179

OhEmGee24 · 12/07/2012 15:33

Oo posted too soon. Just thought we could have a shoe hunt together?!

cardamomginger · 12/07/2012 15:39

Thank you OhEm - had my second operation 3 weeks ago. The surgeon is very pleased with how it went and is confident of an excellent result. Still tired and painful, but hopefully getting there!
I was going to post on your thread and say - yes of course you can wear black!!! Never heard of not wearing black.... Oh well!
Very happy to shoe hunt with you!

Second op?! Goodness you poor thing. What colour/size/style are you after? Im having a dd free weekend so heels are a definite though nothing more than 4". Nude/champagne/cream colour Smile

cardamomginger · 12/07/2012 16:02

Plus 3 lots of injections in my coccyx Grin. Yeah - lucky me, eh!

DD-free weekend - ooohh!!!

I don't know what to get. My default would be heels - I really like the Michael Kors things I linked to above. Or I'd wear something I already have - got a very nice black strappy sandal with a red flower on and have a red clutch to match. But not with DD!! The dress is good enough on me that if I found stylish enough flats I'd go with those. I have a really nice bronze woven clutch, so bronze would go with that. I'm not really convinced that even a kitten heel would work - running in a stiletto is still running in a stiletto even if it's low. And part of the wedding may well be outside.

Wedges are an option - but so many of these are still so high and with platforms, making them not particularly child-friendly options.

Wedding is not until December, so have MASSES of time. But am just mooching around the house waiting to get better, so thought I've have a look now and maybe be able to take advantage of the sales.

What's your budget?

OP posts:
OhEmGee24 · 12/07/2012 16:17

Oo December, I presume you therefore want a closed toe? The strappy ones sound lovely!

The one we are going to is in four weeks. Not a huge budget, £50. Travel expenses and hotel for the weekend alone for dp and I are in excess of £300. Nuts.
