Help! Eyeliner recommendation

Fieldette · 11/07/2012 16:38

I am looking for a new eyeliner and would welcome any recommendations.

I've always worn this in the night to day one and I feel I am starting to resemble a racoon! I have dark brown hair (think this colour, so not too dark), dark green eyes, am fair skinned and I subtly pencil in a fairly strong eyebrow (not a Scouse brow though!)

Eye make-up tends to be the main make-up I wear - mascara and eyeliner - I have pretty good skin and don't wear lipstick, but I feel that my current eyeliner is a bit harsh and heavy, although I try to apply it quite lightly, and could be rather aging - am 27.

I generally wear it across my top lashline and along my bottom lashline and am looking for one that doesn't drag when you apply it, doesn't smudge too easily, and doesn't look like it's been drawn on with a felt-tip pen as some of them do.

I find make-up so blardy confusing and am absolutely hopeless! Plus there's a million and one different sorts out there. I was hoping that the S&B experts could suggest a good eyeliner pencil, or an alternative, but I definitely need something!

Bobbi Brown longwear gel eyeliner comes in loads of colours - I have similar colouring to you and current fave is Forest Shimmer Ink. Quite dark green but not bottle green, more of a brown green. Stays on all day!

Bobbi Brown gel eyeliners come in a pencil now - they are meant to be amazing. I have only used the stuff in a pot and it's nice but time consuming to apply ime. They stay put as well!

Sorry x posted!

The no7 pencil are really good, soft and longlasting. The brown or khaki ones would be softer than black. Doesn't wearing it on the bottom make your eyes look small?

I like this Boujois one. Like you I tend to just do the eyes and not bother too much with the lips. Don't be put off by the fact that it's a felt tip, it goes on reasonably fine and doesn't smudge all day. I love pens because I find the liquid ones really hard to apply and the pencils smudge straight away.

LurkeyLurkerson · 11/07/2012 21:45

P.S. Krumbum if you just apply from the middle of your eye (under your pupil) to the outer part it works wonders at widening your eyes, a fab trick I've just discovered!

Thanks for the suggestions so far, do those eyeliner pens look soft when they are applied? I don't like it when they look like a hard line, I'd like on that looks soft and natural really, as if it is my natural lash line iykwim.

I am very envious of people who's lash lines look as if they are wearing eyeliner when they're not!

krumbum I find that if you apply it on the lash line it doesn't make them look small

I agree with No 7 liners - the metallic ones ( don't be put off by the name) are gorgeous and the plain ones with a smadger on the ends are lovely too especially the brown one - 'Mink' I think it's called, the most perfect brown ever.

Ryoko · 12/07/2012 09:24

I only use pencils, I think Boujois pencil ones are the best by a long way.

LurkeyLurkerson · 12/07/2012 10:32

Fieldette It goes on soft for me, I don't think it looks like I'm wearing eyeliner, but it definately improves the appearence of my eyes.

The By Terry eyeliners are the best I've ever encountered. Go on soft and stay put.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 12/07/2012 12:22

The tesco range Face do great eyeliners...and you get a pencil sharpener on the lid which is a fab idea!

Fieldette · 17/07/2012 10:44

Lots of great suggestions, thanks everyone. I think I shall write these down and go and have a play in Boots.

I always test them on the back of my hand which I don't feel is the most accurate representation of my face, they always look different on my eyes.

I think what I really need is to see an independent make-up artist. Now to find a good one of those. Ho hum.

I second lurkey's Bourjois rec - I used to use Mac/Bobbi Brown gel liners every day but now I'm converted, after seeing Lisa Eldridge recommend it in one of her Youtube tutorials. It hasn't dried out half as quickly as most felt tip liners seem to, and you can make the line thick or very fine. It's a good solid black, and it lasts well.
