Flat shoes for a Wedding

I have to wear flat shoes.
What do I wear to my daughter's wedding?
I a 53, size 16, 5'5" reddish hair and pale skin. I need to have sleeves to cover arm scaring. I am an apple shape
I have started looking and feel very frumpy and hugely compromised by an inability to wear heels.
I do not like bling or ruched monstrosities currently sold as "mother of the bride"

I would find a pretty pair of ballet pumps once you've chosen the rest of your outfit. Don't feel pressurised into wearing high shoes if you'd feel uncomfortable all day.

I hope you have a lovely time Smile.

Thanks,
I literally cannot wear heels due to car accident 4 years ago. My right knee is too unstable.
I usually wear a sensible Gabor shoe as balet flats are not stable enough.

Ah, okay. So, what about your outfit? Do you have anything yet?

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 10/07/2012 22:03

What sort of things do you usually like? Classic? Edgy? Prints? Plain?

A good way to get around wearing flat shoes without feeling frumpy / out of place is to go with a long dress. Perfectly natural to have flats on then. There are some nice sleeved long dresses about but not sure what sort of budget your on and I'm not sure if your after long sleeves or longer short length IYSWIM.

Almost everything I've ever seen labeled as "mother of the bride' stuff is horrid. Do not despair!

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 10/07/2012 22:04

you're x 2

I normally wear pretty classic stuff and try to look elegant rather than edgy. A print is not out of the question.
The thing about "long" is that my daughter is wearing tea length. Does that matter?
Upper arms to elbow have to be covered.

I am prepared to splash out a bit for this special day

Gabor do some formal pretty pumps that look more substantial than a typical ballet slipper?

The mushroom surfed would go well with any length?

Binfullofsiliconelimbsonthe45 · 10/07/2012 22:19

Suede not surfed!

7to25 · 10/07/2012 22:30

Have those Gabor pumps and some of the others too!

I think they are stylish enough for a wedding, especially in a light, accessorised colour.

And you'll feel better on the day in comfort, being relaxed and not self conscious about your feet.

It's the worst type of day for standing around!

I have a very large scar on my arm. So I sympathise. But there are a lot more 3/4 shrugs in light linen mix knits or delicate embroidery around these days to use as a cool coverup over a sleeveless dress?

Hope you have a great day!

cocobongo · 10/07/2012 23:10

you didnt mention your shoe size- if you are a 4 (37) then could these be any good for you? there is mention in the reviews that the support is better than with most pumps.

sorry......

sequin pumps

7to25 · 11/07/2012 09:01

Thanks Coco,
The sequin pumps are too low at the front for me to keep them on my feet; however the problem is not the shoes, but the outfit to go with the flat shoes!
this thread has been prompted by a shopping expedition with my mother-in-law where I was depressed by the end of it, not just the rain, I could find nothing!

this is very nice

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 11/07/2012 12:00

7to25 · 11/07/2012 13:40

Thanks.
Do you think it is OK to wear long when the bride and bridesmaids are wearing tea length?

As long as it's not white, long is fine!
