Slim fit cropped trousers - can they be worn in winter?

Help Stylish and Beautiful ladies!

I'm going back to work after maternity leave and trying to build a new work wardrobe. I'm smaller than I was before I got pregnant (terrible morning sickness!) and my usual work clothes now don't fit.

I'm a teacher, so don't need anything super smart but no jeans allowed.

I fancy a pair of slim leg, slightly cropped trousers, something like these:

Gap trousers

but how would I wear them in winter??????? Can't afford to buy a similar but longer pair too!

Thank you!

Hi, I'm also building up my post-baby wardrobe! I recently re-discovered an old pair of smart slim leg cropped trousers and I really like them, they're cute but dressy.
I'm not sure about the depths of winter, but certainly for spring and autumn I think it's fine to wear a pair of flesh-coloured knee-highs stockings underneath. However it will be REALLY important to get a good brand of stockings and to match them as closely as possible to your skin tone. I'm really pale so this means a bit of hunting around in my case. Also try to get seamless ones so there's no nasty seams showing up at your ankles and stuff.

You could always wear coloured or patterned stockings either but these look less great IMO.

I've been thinking about this and I think of a way to get around the fact that you need to have bare ankles with cropped trousers, or you just look like your trousers are too short. (Or you can wear stockings, as optional says, but I hate them and they won't keep you warm in winter anyway.)

I just wear them for as long as possible until my feet turn blue and then switch sadly to tights and dresses or jeans and boots!

That should say I CAN'T think of a way.

I have those and wear in winter with ankle boots or ballet pumps and socks.

Tucked into knee length boots?

MsOliveOyl · 10/07/2012 12:03

The right ankle boots could work. But I can never find the right ankle boots :(

cocolepew · 10/07/2012 12:06

Ankle boots with a heel or flat long boots(underneath not tucked in.)

I have very fine wool striped navy/grey socks and wear with loafers brogues etc too

some people wear patterny tights - one colour, pattern in the knit - and ballet pumps.

bunionscomingsoon · 10/07/2012 12:49

I wear mine either tucked into boots - or with knee highs and flat shoes of some sort -- ballerinas or if walking out a lot - loafers etc. If they fit well and are nice slim leg they look better with boots in Winter I think.

Thank you so much, lots of food for thought there.

I was thinking that I might invest in a more expensive pair of full length work trousers and buy a cheaper pair of the cropped ones and just wear them for the time that I won't freeze in them!

I'm not a fan of tights under trousers - I don't like the feeling of all those layers round my crotch!! However, I have been known to rock a pair of flesh coloured pop socks!

I hadn't thought of wearing them over flat boots, good call!

Thanks again!
