Wedding shoe challenge: involves nice-but-safe dress, Highland weather, and ceilidh dancing.

You must all be so bored of wedding outfit questions! But I'd very much welcome suggestions if anyone's seen anything that might fit this particular bill...

I'm going to a wedding in a village in the Highlands soon; you need to look nice and like you're at a wedding, but super-slick urban style not on because you feel (& look) like a twit. I also have to not clash with all my men folk in bright red kilts!

I have this dress, which is lovely on, and a clearer colour than in the picture, but quite boring restrained. I'd love to have some gorgeous, bright shoes to jazz it up a bit - a bit of height good, but serious/spiky heels a no-go. They'd have to be seriously danceable in.

Special bonus prize for cardy/bag/hairclip type stuff if you're so moved!

Id suggest a pair of ballet flats for the ceilidh, not v stylish but good for dancing in without falling over. Then you can wear fable high heels for the daytime bit. Unfortunately i am as fashionable as a slug so can't suggest what glamorous shoes to wear.

OhBuggerandArse · 09/07/2012 11:21

Oh blacktea, i know that is the sensible solution, but there must be a middle way! (Plus all my ballet flats are knackered, so I'd have to buy new ones of them too, which means an awful lot of New Shoes...)

Fair enough. I just know that i can't ceilidh in high heels and also have received many instep injuries from stilletos.

OhBuggerandArse · 09/07/2012 20:50

Anyone got any thoughts this evening?

I think the dress is fab. Would suit any weather as well (seeing as it's a midden up here at the moment.)

What colour is your hair? Do you have a tan or are you pale and interesting?

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 09/07/2012 21:58

Struggling for bright and wildly danceable shoes with decent height.

red wedge

dolly wedge

TBH I think you'd be better off going for shoes you love and kicking them off in wild abandon later in the evening. Is that doable? If not duller shoes, big / bright / statement jewelery might work.

OhBuggerandArse · 09/07/2012 22:37

You are all very sensible, and quite right that one shouldn't really try to dance in proper heels. I suppose that means I could wear ones I have already - I have some lovely green wedge sandals that are definitely non-danceable! Was just hoping that there might be some way of avoiding the faff of changing - but it's probably the way to go.

Yup, green wedges sound perfect! Now you can splash out on the rest guilt free

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 09/07/2012 22:47

What tartan is it BTW?

OhBuggerandArse · 09/07/2012 23:06

What tartan? Can't possibly reveal it for fear of blowing my secret identity! (Or for fear of it being too boring... clue: it is readily available in tartan tat shops!)

aaaargh

dress is crying out for an amazing necklace, bracelet and earrings. Someting really modern or maybe an antique piece (borrow from someone?). John Lewis has a good range of amazing stuff.

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 09/07/2012 23:23

Thought so Wink Any clues to your colouring for looking at coverups / headgear / jewelery and the like?

Would these be too tartan tat /
potentially offensive / rather cute for later?

green flats with ooph
green - good grip and rather nice

A shawly wrappy thing would be better than a cardy - could you hack that?

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 09/07/2012 23:23

Quite agree pip

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 09/07/2012 23:25

Could you link to the wedges or their colour?

OhBuggerandArse · 09/07/2012 23:32

Argh, Procrastination, don't wink at me like that, now I feel paranoid and self-conscious!

Of those, I like the green ballet flats with the mental feathery bits best. Dunno what that says about me... The wedges are too old to link to (tho not manky, I promise), but I would say they are a tealy sort of green.

Oh heck! NO. I have not the foggiest who you are. Have no links to Scotland and only know people going to weddings in mainland Europe this summer. That help?

Liking the wild flats betrays your fabulous taste Wink oops They are bootiful.

cakeoholic · 09/07/2012 23:40

I have no shoe links but I live in Scotland and everyone wears heels to ceilidhs! There will be the ladies who abandon their heels to do it in bare feet too of course but that is completely acceptable and in fact obligatory!
