I fear that my shoulder length blonde hair may have to become a shorter cut for good, I can't believe how thin it is. I blame having two children, its definately got finer and finer, do you recommend any products, tools etc to help? Ive been taking vit supplements for ages now, to no avail.

Sorry I can't help but wanted to say mines the same! It's also falling out a lot more.

monkeysmama · 09/07/2012 14:36

I've heard very good things about the Aveda Invati range.

dotty2 · 09/07/2012 14:40

Do you mean few strands, or lots of thin strands? I have the latter - loads of it, but each strand individually really thin. Short choppy cuts do not work for me as it just goes frizzy, so I have to keep some length, so shorter might not be the answer.

(If you've actually got fewer individual hairs than you used to have, it might be worth thinking about whether it could be hypothyroidism - my old hair dresser told me that she had 'diagnosed' a few people as she had thyroid problems herself.)

ujjayi · 09/07/2012 15:12

I have fine hair due to hypothyroidism too. I have always been told that having a short hair cut is worse for fine hair because you need body in the hair to carry a short crop. Long layers are much more flattering IME.

I have found that my hair is in better and stronger condition since I stopped blowdrying it (about 6 weeks ago) and now just leave it to try naturally. It looked a bit dodgy the first week - so I wore it pinned up - but seems to have sorted itself out and now dries into lovely natural waves with the help of a quick spritz of Kerastase Volume Activ spray.

Chicinwellies · 09/07/2012 22:13

Ooh thank you will look into kerastase and see how I go. Strands are thin and quantity is thin too.

I have very fine shoulder length hair, not in great condition, and have started wearing it up in a French plait with the end tucked in and pinned. Once you've got the hang of it it's pretty easy, and I find it much quicker than drying my hair - wait til it dries naturally then put it up. Despite being quite easy it looks impressive and I get a lot of comments. One of the few advantages of fine hair as wouldn't be as easy with thicker hair!

SPsFanjoLovesRussellHoward · 10/07/2012 01:49

Loads of thin strands. Washing it and loads fall out, brush it and loads fall out. My pillow is always covered in hair but I still have a full head of hair. It has been like this for years

Chicinwellies · 10/07/2012 18:17

Hmm, OK mine doesnt seem to fall out, its just so so fine. Not too sure what to do.

I have lots of verysoft, fine hair and I too always use Kerastase Volumactive spray - it doesn't transform it, but it makes it better than it would be without.

TodaysAGoodDay · 10/07/2012 18:22

Mine's the same, incredibly fine. Must get some Kerastase.

aroomofherown · 10/07/2012 18:46

Mine's the same - fine but a lot of it. I'm off to get some Kerastase as well.

Just got it cut funky short from shoulder length and I love it. I keep trying to "grow it long" (which only gets about as far as a shoulder length - almost - bob) but then cut it because it has no body and just flops around making me look drab.

A friend of mine has incredibly thin hair (you could see her scalp at its worst). Her hairdresser recommended Nioxin and she's never looked back. I don't think it's cheap, but her hair has thickened up fantastically, so definitely worth it!

Charliefox · 10/07/2012 18:58

Aveda Invati range has stopped my hair shedding by about 90%. Hair loss is something I've suffered with over the past couple of years and it's such a distressing thing to have but this has helped beyond all measure.

LolaAnn · 10/07/2012 22:51

Mines the same and I worry what it will be like after DC#2 born in december! I'm off to the hairdresser tomorrow and very tempted to get it cut (mines very long - below boob length)

TheLaineyWayIsEssex · 11/07/2012 10:36

I have heard (and seeon youtube) great things about
OSiS dust by Schwarzkopf
it is some weird magic powder that you rub on your scalp and makes your hair look uber thick. you reactivate it by rubbing if it drops later in the day
It's around £9, though don't get from ebay as lots of dodgy ones on there

spikemomma · 11/07/2012 14:27

Try dry shampoo. I used to wash mine daily for years as it went greasy and limp after a day. Then I discovered the wonder of dry shampoo and I'm impressed! It thickens my hair up a lot. I wash it about once a week now and I think that has helped stop my hair shedding quite so much. They have just brought out a dry shampoo which gives body to your hair which is quite good- it kind of feels like hairspray, but it does give a maintained body to your hair though out the day.

aquavit · 11/07/2012 14:46

That Kerastase spray is great. I also love the shampoo and 'masque' (conditioner) in that range, it's the only volumising shampoo and conditioner I've found that doesn't leave my hair dry/frizzy. Toni and Guy's thickening cream is fantastic and I also quite rate TiGi bedhead root boost. I'm less enamoured of dry shampoo as a volumizer as I've got rather dry hair and it makes it dull and frizzy. I use a thickening/volumizing product (mostly at the roots) and then a straigtening/anti-frizz product on top (mostly at the ends) because I straighten my hair.
Learning how to do a good blow dry also makes a massive difference: start with volumizing product of choice at the roots, blast with head upside down until it's nearly dry, then get extra volume in at the roots by blasting it over your head in the opposite direction from the one it will lie in. You can re-volumize during the day by flipping your head over and spraying hairspray at the roots while it's upside down.

Chicinwellies · 12/07/2012 20:47

Ooh thanks all and Thanks re blow dry tips that's def a factor for me. Will try kerastase as well - any excuse. Are there any haircuts you've mentioned that you could post pics of or links to similar? I'm the same, constantly deciding that I must grow my hair long before I'm too old, but it gets to just below shoulder length and looks a straggly thin shambles.
