Feeding/maternity bras

I'm wondering if it would be uncomfortable to wear a nursing bra now instead of buying maternity bras. What is so special about a maternity-specific bra anyway?

Last time round I made do with a fairly cheap selection, but I decided that if I was going to have another baby I would buy nice pretty bras earlier on, especially seeing that I ended up using them for quite a long time last time. I know I'll go up a cup size after the birth but if last time is anything to go by, I'll end up back at my pregnancy cup size after a couple of months, so if I got something that fits now, it will probably fit then.

Any thoughts and recommendations for something nice? I quite like how the Elle Macpherson range looks.

I've just bought 2 hot milk nursing bras for the remainder of my pregnancy and nursing. They are very pretty and comfy. I may need to buy in different sizes once the milk has arrived but I thought it better to try them out now. I got mine from figleaves, some are on offer.

I've got a few of the Mothercare maternity & nursing bras, were fab when I was nursing DD, now I'm 30 weeks with DC2 and have been wearing them for about a month as my normal bras were starting to be uncomfortable. You def don't need to spend money on separate 'before' and 'after' bras, there's loads of makes that do both in one now.

Definatly go for hot milk. The name is awful, but the bras fab! Make sure you have them fitted properly and they will last you through late pregnancy and feeding. They have a large changeable back fastening, ?about 6inches so allow for growing and loosing weight. Hope that makes sense! Elle ones are only for those blessed with small boobs and have very thin straps!!

Ah, thanks. That's just the information I needed.
Well I'm a C-cup now which seems massive for me, but I know is not actually that big. I can really appreciate how larger busts can put someone off sport though (the Shock Absorber Run bra is great now).
Off to local shop/figleaves.

Oh, and if you think "Hot Milk" is a bad name, how about the one that I see advertised round here. "Queen Mum", just sounds wrong on so many levels.

hi
I went out in the first trimestre and got newly fitted at john Lewis - the bras were great - for about 5 weeks then too small! I struggled for weeks with old sportsbras.
Ive just now (week 28) got some bravado seamless bras, suitable for breast feeding and INCREDIBLY comfortable. John Lewis recommended them but you can also get them online from nursingbras - which is a bit cheaper.
Probably a good idea to get your first one somewhere you are fitted. The great bit is they have tons of hooks so you can grow or shrink and theyll still be good. And they give you proper support. Dont spend money on bras you cant use when nursing - its pointless.
