foundation that doesn't go shiny and gives good coverage?

Is there such thing as this?

I have dry skin, its sometimes a little flaky looking if I use mousse type foundations. But it must be oily too because after a few hours my face is mega shiny. I hate shiny face!

I am also of the pink faced kind. Red and blotchy. I sound lush don't I? :p

Is there a foundation (for under £15) that will make my face look nice and one colour and not shiny?

Sounds like you want fairly good coverage? For under £15 maybe Revlon Colourstay or Vichy Dermablend. You use both of those very lightly.

Bourjois Healthy Mix has a nice semi-matte finish and medium coverage.

Estée Lauder Double Wear Light?

ElizaDoMore · 06/07/2012 21:00

Ooh, it's too expensive - sorry! Blush

EllieorOllie · 06/07/2012 21:16

Agree with the Revlon color stay. As long as your skin is well moisturised it won't accentuate dry bits. Good range of colours too.

LexieSinclair · 06/07/2012 21:29

I'm very shiny and I really like No7 Beautifully Matt, £13.50.

CandyCrate · 06/07/2012 21:49

awesome, have heard some good stuff about revlon colour stay before.

will tester that and the no7!

It's worth paying for the E L DOUBLEWEAR LIGHT. Seriously. Lasts ages and a little goes a long way.

EllieorOllie · 07/07/2012 14:57

I think it's mostly a matter of what suits a person's skin. Many high end foundations accentuate all the worst aspects of my skin, including the EL DW. The Revlon is perfect for me, it's not a budget compromise. OP will just need to test all the recs to find what suits her skin.

QuinnFabray · 07/07/2012 15:55

Rimmel 25 hour is another good one to try.

Itsgottabebags · 07/07/2012 16:08

Buy some little pots op and ask if its ok for you to get samples of the self service foundaions and ask for samples at the high end brnad counters.

Max Pafctor Miracle TOuch Liquid Illusion is fab. Easy to put on, decent coverage, not shiny. About 13 quid iirc?

WerthersUnOriginal · 07/07/2012 16:11

Clinique Stay Matte Oil Free Foundation is excellent. I love itSmile

My skin isn't oily or especially dry, but this suits me perfectly. It stays put, coverage is good and yet it's light and natural. Good stuff!

NoWayNoHow · 07/07/2012 16:23

I've got very similar skin to you (can get flaky, but "dewy" foundations just leave me with a massive shine-on).

I've found Max Factor really good for me - both the Colour Adapt (which helps with the blotchiness LOADS) and Lasting Performance.

valiumredhead · 07/07/2012 20:12

Bare Minerals Matte foundation.

Tuppence2 · 08/07/2012 15:01

I use the Boots 17 adaptitude foundation. I have both dry patches and shiny bits, and it covers both really well.
Plus it's just under £7, so it's my everyday foundation

CandyCrate · 08/07/2012 16:29

under seven quid? ooh it might be the winner!

Krumbum · 08/07/2012 16:32

Do you use powder on top? It does help a lot with shine.

MaidenDevon · 08/07/2012 16:51

I went from Estee Lauder Double Wear at £25 a bottle to Boots No. 7 Beautifully Matte at about £13 when having to make economies whilst on maternity leave. I slightly prefer the EL, but it's certainly not worth twice the cost the of No.7. Revlon Colour Stay very good as well. Problem is you can't get testers for lots of the cheaper foundations. EL will give you a weeks worth of several shades to try before you buy.

CandyCrate · 08/07/2012 17:52

I do use powder, Mac powder, as I love it and it lasts ages. Its one of the only things Im willing to spend more on as its meant to help with the shine, but I find even that goes shiny on top of a rubbish foundation.

OP posts:
Krumbum · 08/07/2012 19:27

Try a mattifying primer maybe the no7 one or the Rimmel one is good.

CandyCrate · 08/07/2012 21:08

I always thought primer was a con. You need moisturiser, foundation, concealer, powder, and now primer too? Lol does it actually work?

OP posts:
Krumbum · 08/07/2012 22:27

It does! I didn't believe it either. Bit once I tried it, it's much better. Particularily for mineral makeup.
I don't use moisturiser, my oily face is moist enough! But the primer keeps my makeup on much longer and fills in big pores etc. Don't bother with an expensive one, it's all just silicone anyway.

laracroft2001 · 08/07/2012 22:29

Lancôme tient idole 24h. Slightly, ok quite a bit more, expensive but so worth the investment. Won't give u dry patches, and won't give you shine. Also lasts literally all day!
