Can you recommend me a semi-permanent hair colour that isn't L'Oreal Castings and will dye my grey hairs for longer than a week?

I have used this for years, but they seem to have changed the 'recipe' - it lasts a week before the grey starts showing through (used to be at least four or five).

Am I doomed to use permanent, or is there another brand you can recommend?

I like the John Freida foam one, but I don't think it's a semi.

agree re: john frieda, my grey hairs are covered between hair appointments, at least 5 weeks...

I used the John Frieda one and it ravaged my hair! It's never felt so dry Sad. I'm going back to Castings! What kind of colour are you using? I had a long chat with a hairdresser friend of mine who teaches colouring and she explained to me that if you use a colour with a tone to it, like a reddish brown or golden brown then the greys will take on that tone but still show through as it's sort of transparent - ie. I used a reddish brown and all my greys end up looking a bit gingery once it starts to fade. She advised me to mix the colour 50/50 with a medium brown with no other tones in it so that the medium brown covers the grey and then gets toned with the rest of the hair. Makes a lot of sense to me actually.

I have just bought 2 different boxes so will probably try it next week. Superdrug are doing 2 for £9.99 at the moment so that helps. It's not a waste as you just keep the second bottle of developer unopened and keep the two half squeezed out tubes of mixer to add to it for the next time. I'll see how I get on.

It's a shame as I loved the idea of using a foam dye and not dripping it all over my white bathroom but after using the John Frieda one twice I ended up having to have 3 inches cut off my hair as it was so fried afterwards!

?Having kittens* that is v interesting. Maybe it is because I have too much grey these days Sad I will try the double-colour approach.

Oh, she also said to leave it on for half an hour to make sure you get good grey coverage.

Lush henna blocks - they have them in 3 different colours and you can mix them up to get the shade (ish) that you want. They are a little messy at first, until you get the hang of them, but they last on grey really well and leave your hair in great condition. No allergy risk either.
