anybody with curly/frizzy hair and a short or shortish haircut? thinking about cutting my mane off

I have chin-shoulder lengths hair. my hair is very curly and frizzy (I already use conditioner only, avoid silicone etc) and I am getting really fed up with the frizz on my head.

I have been thinking about a shorter haircut but I worry that I will look like an old lady (they all seem to have curly short hair iyswim).

i am quite tall (5'10) and have a big face and glasses. a pixie style haircut cut would look hilarious.

anybody with curly/frizzy hair and a short haircut out there? is this a good idea? what kind of haircuts do you sport?

My hair is very very thick and has a curl in it and after years of wearing it long I had it cut chin length....dodgy at first because the type of cut she gave me tended to sort of go outwards and I felt a bit like crystal tips but she came back, put loads of layers in it, its cut short at the back sort of wedging into the neck and now I love it......should have done it ages ago.

I have curly/frizzy hair and a shorter haircut is a disaster on me. It just sticks out too much and I look like an idiot!

you see, dexter, that is my worry. i never had my hair short but it is so frizzy and curly (i have petty small curls) and so unruly that I worry it will look totally idiotic Confused

also, it grows at the rate of less than 10cm/year and would take forever to grow back. but then I am so fed up with my hair right now.

thanks, betty, do you have a pictures with a similar haircut you could link for me (I can't quite picture your hair Blush ).

Another naturally curly - and so naturally frizzy - girl here!

I had my hair in a wedge when it was fashionable; I must have been 8 or 9 years old (1991/2-ish) and it was a DISASTER. All wild frizz sticking up and out and I hated it. Took what felt like forever to grow (2 years to shoulders again).

My hairdresser decided a couple of years ago that "choppy layers" would be a good look. It was not. I looked like a mushroom-head and those layers took over a year to 'drop' and look right.

So, IMO, keep the length in your hair.

However, you do have alternatives:

  1. Good, strong straighteners with a steam shot (Babyliss Pro 230 work on my hair) to iron the curls out. Make sure you use a good-quality argan oil to stop your hair drying out.

  2. 200 degree heat curling tongs (NOT a wand. Not unless you want mermaid curls). Style the hair into looser curls. The heat of the tongs seriously reduces frizz, too, especially if you use a gentle mousse or argan oil.

  3. Velcro rollers and lots of hairspray. Leave hair to dry naturally wrapped around the curlers and you'll have huge, tumbling curls. Hairspray holds the style and lessens frizz.

And finally

  1. Love Thy Curls

(and just tie it up in this weather. Rain+humidity= my hairs' nightmare)

I have naturally curly frizzy hair. I have just had it cut into a jaw length bob.
It looks much better than when it was shoulder length. However, it has gone much curlier and difficult to style.

In desperation I bought the curly girl book (not used shampoo for years or silicones). Having read it I realised that I hadn't been using enough leave in conditioner. Once I upped that, I have been rewarded with gorgeous frizz free curls. Now I wish I hadn't had it cut.

My sister has thick and frizzy hair and she hates long hair. Her hair's currently getting better because she's been using argan oil (Pro Naturals Moroccan Argan oil from beyas. ca..to be specific) and it's really doing her good.

No frizz and it's looking nice and soft. You might want to give it a try so you don't have to fret about having your new hairdo' poofing up!
