Dragons Den style dilemma

JamamasPyjamas · 05/07/2012 16:23

It's not actually Dragons Den but similar, and will be filmed for TV. I am pitching my business to investors and buyers and need to feel business like without feeling uncomfortable. Do you think this dress would work, hope so as otherwise it's a mad dash round shops!
www.divacatwalk.com/collections/spring-chic/galactic-stretch-pencil-dress/35/2

What would you accesorize it with, and would you wear a blazer, I can never find ones that fit me properly. Would a cardi work, or look too casual?
I am a size 6, 5"2. I can look a bit scrawny unless I'm wearing something that really fits well.
Any ideas for shoes, I was going to go with small wedge nude patent leather but am thinking I might need some kind of heel and colour?

All suggestions would be so gratefully received as I am bag of nerves and would just like to feel confident in what I am wearing.

Thanks style gurus!

Do YOU feel comfy in it? Have you bought it yet??

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 05/07/2012 20:39

I looks great to me, but Olivia is right. You have to feel fantastic in it. Do you?

Dress looks nice.

But it depends on 2 things, one if you feel you can rock it in that dress and two what business type you are pitching.

IE: on trend clothing for advertising would be fine
Casual but smart ie, causal uniform fine if you are pitching something involving kids
Killer heals and tight taliouring great for upper level commercial

HTH

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 05/07/2012 20:53

these wedges would be great with it, about perfect. Maybe these if you'd rather have courts?

I'm all for bold colour contrast but unless your in the creative field it might be a bit much here. Black would work really well.

Will you get 'hair and make-up' on the day?

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 05/07/2012 20:54

you're

JamamasPyjamas · 05/07/2012 21:38

Thanks so much for responses. This is a dress that I already have and always makes me feel good, and I would like to think I can rock it!
mummyinspain good point. I am a small food manufacturer looking to get into a supermarket and know that I will be pitching to my dream buyers. I want to look like I could be trusted with a large order (can you convey that with one dress!?)

I think probably heels would make me feel a bit OTT so I'll go with small wedges. Thanks procastrination those green wedges would look good, it definitely needs something bold with it.
Has anybody seen any cropped cardigans/shrunken blazers around at the moment?

If it was actually DD I would say wear a suit - even KB is quite conservative in her business attire.

You should wear something you feel comfortable in but I do think a suit is a good option when trying to convey maturity and seriousness.

The dress is nice but if you do go for it don't wear a blazer it'll interfere with the pleat detailing at the neck/shoulder.

SaraBellumHertz · 05/07/2012 21:48

Oh and avoid a cardi with tailoring at all costs - you'll look like you work in an office that over does the air con

mummyinspain · 06/07/2012 08:32

From the description of you pitch that dress is fine.

Although I would stear clear of a wedge and go for a more precise shoe. Like a court or heal, nothing clunky.

With Jewlery go for what you like if you are an earth mother go for chunky but maybe upgrade to something a little more statment then my kids made me this from bark and leaves :) Alternative co classic with a watch earings and nothing much else.

Hair should be up if it is long, you are pitching to the food industry so think clean and hyginic (sorry), you can still do sexy up hair, but not down.

Personally make upwise I would go for natural but not dewying incent.

Do not wear a cardi, if you rock this dress then at your size go for it! Don´t try and be mumsy, just go this is me.

mummyinspain · 06/07/2012 08:34

For some reason I can´t pm you, but if you want to pm me I might be able to offer some tips. I used to run a big venture / angel investment group.

mummyinspain · 06/07/2012 08:37

Oh, and you can convey and need to convey everything with your clothing and apperance.

One look and they have already started to make a decision (sorry but its true)

You need to look like you can go toe to toe with them in their world, that you belong there and that they are lucky to have got to see you first.

Then you need to be modest, confident and know your stuff

AmberNectarine · 06/07/2012 09:16

Is your dress that colour? If so no to nude wedges. In fact I'd be tempted to say wedges too casual for a tailored dress, I would go with an almond toe court.

Personally I would probably wear a similarly tailored dress but in a more sombre colour - navy, black, grey etc. I would say that shade of blue is a little too frivolous for something like this. The shape of the dress is great, though (a copy of the Roland Mouret Moon dress IIRC?)

I wholeheartedly agree with keeping hair and makeup simple and fresh.

typicalvirgo · 06/07/2012 10:59

I've got that dress well similar but its a Karen Millen one.

I bloody love it and have worn it for all sorts of occasions.

if you feel confident in it which I think you would - go for it!

JamamasPyjamas · 06/07/2012 14:57

AmberNectarine the dress is in navy, and I think it looks pretty smart, it's my go to dress for any smart ocassion!
I have bought some red court shoes today, do you think that's a bit of a daring colour!

I'm probably going to Bobbi Brown to get my make up done, had it done by them before and it was great, I just felt really comfortable and confident.
Hair, will def put it up so it looks neat.
I usually wear a fine gold necklace and probably small gold earrings, large jewellery makes me look a bit like I've been raiding the dressing up box!

AmberNectarine · 07/07/2012 09:59

Oh yes, navy is perfect. Red courts could be good, a little flash of personality without overpowering. You are absolutely right to go with small scale jewellery. More business-like.

Best of luck, do report back!

CaoNiMa · 07/07/2012 12:50

Isn't it just a copy of Roland Mouret's Galaxy dress? I mean, even the name is kind of a rip-off...

Maybe come up with something a little more original?
