We are off to Reiss. Zara is probably too trendy. He has vetoed Next for some reason will probably end up there anyway

Any other recommendations, stylish ladies? He doesn't like double-vented (or double-breasted).

What's it for and what's the budget?
My DH buys suits from Crombie, Oliver Benjamin and various independent shops on jermyn street, but he works in the city so needs to be pinstriped up. I think he spends up to £4-500 though

DH buys from Hacketts. They have great sales. The suits are fabulous and have gorgeous linings. They last for years.

Dh doesn't own a suit and can no longer get away with it! Don't mind spending £500 but can't get to London so thinking high street.

Will try hacketts, but more suggestions also welcome. Zara no good - next is vile!!

Hugo Boss. Only place DH will buy suits other than Jermyn Street. His from there have lasted well (I also have some from there and rate their quality).

valiumredhead · 03/07/2012 12:29

Dh gets work suits from Tk Maxx - pays about £100 for a £400 - £500 suit.

clinkclink · 03/07/2012 12:35

Added complication - he only wants single vented and everything is double vented!! Paul Smith and Boss closest yet but have a feeling this trip is not going to yield result!! Any other suggestions welcome!

Paul Smith

Austin Reed?

I know that Greenwoods is thought of as a shop for pensioners but DH had his last suit from there and it is lovely, really good quality and I've washed the trousers dozens of times, despite being dry clean only.

ceeveebee · 03/07/2012 12:38

Maybe Ted Baker although I don't know how good the quality is, my DH has never bought a suit from there but I like the womenswear

AWomanCalledHorse · 03/07/2012 12:39

DH has a fantastic grey suit he bought in John Lewis, from Ted Baker.
It was this suit, minus the check pattern.

AWomanCalledHorse · 03/07/2012 12:40

Damn, just found it this suit. He's lanky with a long torso & it fitted him really well.

Malificence · 03/07/2012 12:42

Moss have some gorgeous suits too.

If time isn't an issue find a local tailor to make one for you, you'd be surprised what is available using local craftspeople.

Those Ted Baker ones looked just the thing - we looked for and found a Ted Baker shop, but it had almost no suits in it. Went to Boss - all double-vented jackets, but nice assistant recommended another shop, which recommended another one? and that one had lovely Kenzo suit in it. £600 - way more than dh wanted to spend, but after four hours we'd realised single-vented jackets are scarce.

Thanks to everyone who responded.

DH bought a Paul Smith suit on sale for our wedding 11 years ago. It still looks sharp now.
