A la camping: capsule wardrobe required, aidez moi!

Hi again ladies
thanks so much for your previous advice, am now on the hunt for packing guidance.
We're off to France for a camping trip end of July.
I have so lost my wardrobe mojo and having two children and all the other accoutrements a camping trip requires I need a capsule wardrobe which is chic enough for the French countryside yet practical and doesn't take too much space...
So I'm putting myself back into your capable hands.
So far I've thought cropped khakis, 1 pair jeans (skinny or bootcut?) denim long shorts, the ubiquitous converse pumps and some havainas & vest tops?
I have an unglamourous but practical craghoppers jacket and then I'm stuck!

Thank you

I think you may boil in jeans at that time of year!

I stick to cropped trousers , knee length cotton ot denim skirts, then tops or vest tops with cotton or linen mix cardigans.

I take a warm top (even, whisper it, a fleece), and find a light body warmer / type thing very useful.

thanks insomniac! (I feel your pain) I guess the Brit in me just expects to be cold everywhere!
I have a nice little denim skirt, a bit sparse on vests but easily rectified & i'll look out for a light little cardie.

Have you got a cheap and cheerful sundress/maxi that you could take and then if you do go for dinner out with the family/ glass of wine at chic cafe you can feel dressed up? Otherwise shorts and jeans with a range if tops. Layers. Couple of cool scarves to brighten outfits up? Converse; flat pretty sandals that would go with shorts or sundress?

Some shoes/flipflops you can slip on v easily to go to the toilet block.
Roll your clothes rather than folding (less creasing)
Get light, thin absorbent towels (v cheap at Decathlon)
I also think you'll be too hot in jeans, don't bother
Sun dresses
Some sort of shirt that covers your arms and your decollete for when you've caught too much sun

P.S the French Countryside is not chic Grin

Haha Jamie, the last time I was let loose in the french countryside I almost became dish of the day for wild boar! However I've been exiled to style wilderness for so long and I just want to feel 'put together' and comfy in my skin & I guess there's an element of narcisim when it comes to holiday snaps...
Thanks for reminding me I have a couple of those supertowels, I'd better hunt them down!
Hi notyummy I have a perfect little vintage cotton sundress which has seen me through many an occasion so tanks for that, i'll stick it in ;@)

Myabe one pair of long but light trousers for evening cover up if, like me, you attract every biting insect in miles. But I agree jeans are maybe too hot. Primark had some linen trousers last time I was in (OK a while back) that might do?

disparatefishwife · 30/06/2012 19:48

Thanks Jelliclecat. I tend to avoid linen trews as I seem to make everything I wear look scruffy, no matter where it's from or what quality it is. Linen trousers just look like I've turned up in my pjs after a week in bed!
