Why do people keep their own shampoo at the hairdressers?

I keep noticing this. Do I need to start doing it as well? I'd hate to be missing out!

What? I've never seen this. (though I probably buy a few new shampoos more often than I get my hair done Blush) Mine write everything they use down though and get out a list of what you've used before when you go then pick the same if you liked it. Is it like that?

TheNightWatch · 28/06/2012 10:57

No. The hd just asked a lady what shampoo she wanted and the lady replied that hers was already here. The HD then went into the cupboard and bought the said labelled shampoo out!

I always assumed it was people who were very sensitive to certain types of shampoo or needed something very specific (fragrance free, medicated etc). I think it's quite common.

TheNightWatch · 28/06/2012 11:45

Really? The cupboard looked full of shampoos in posh paper bags with ribbons and everything. I didn't think it was because of allergies but you could be right,

Do they??? I have never seen that, and wouldn't even have thought of asking. Why would you want to take your own shampoo, and if you do, is the actual haircut cheaper?

valiumredhead · 28/06/2012 12:32

I take my own sometimes if I am having a particularly sensitive time, lots of people do.

shrimponastick · 28/06/2012 12:37

Really???? I did not know that people did that.

I am having a v educational day on MN today.

TheNightWatch · 28/06/2012 13:28

Its not taken though. Its already there stored for them.

Well it just saves the clients bringing their shampoos in each time Hmm

TheNightWatch · 28/06/2012 14:35

every second person needs special shampoo? That cant be right.

what would be the point of paying all that money if you were bringing your own shampoo?

It must be some sort of contract.

i have done this as i have very sensitive eczema, if it a hairdresser i used regularly i would leave one there, otherwise i take one with me.

valiumredhead · 28/06/2012 14:41

Why can't it be right? Confused

Think of all the clients that go to a salon.

Sorry, twice!

Pancakeflipper · 28/06/2012 14:44

I haven't known people to keep shampoo at my hairdressers but I know people with scalp conditions to bring their own in.

In my student days I worked in a pub and some of the regulars had their own glasses and tankards. Crazy tantrums were thrown if you tried to serve their bitter in a normal pint glass.

TheNightWatch · 28/06/2012 14:52

Well, the clients must have a lot of money to beable to keep big bottles there. They must be going nearly every other week.

Never seen that at all tbh.

I have a sensitive scalp and have psoriasis at the back of my scalp and behind my ears. I don't take my own shampoo in though. My hairdressers have a selection of different shampoos and they have ones suitable for sensitive skin, including medicated ones. I find they are fine. I couldn't be doing with the faff tbh - I often make appointments last minute so not organised enough.

Dawndonna · 28/06/2012 18:04

I kept mine at the last hairdresser I used. I needed prescription only stuff due to psoriasis and alopecia. She kept it in a nice bottle, labelled for me.
