Straighteners or curling iron thing to curl long hair?

I've just been to the hairdressers and had a new 'do' first time in 3 years. It looked great when she'd finished, but a bit dull, so I asked her if she'd got any product to make it shiny. She went and got straighteners then started to curl my hair with them Shock !!!

I had no idea it was possible!!! I realise my mousse and scrunch technique is woefully inadequate (it was even in the eighties!), but this is something else Grin

I came out determined to buy straigheners NOW, but when I looked, the choice is huge, and there are also those curling iron thingies, and they look as though they are made for the job, although the straighteners did a great job themselves.

So, any ideas/recommendations which/what I should buy??

The next thread I start is going to be called 'Why do I always post at the busiest times of the day?' Grin

Please help, someone...I need to get these bought tomorrow so I have time to practice before I go away for the weekend on Friday!

ghd's, i use them every day either to curl my hair or straighten it Bit pricey to start with but last ages, ive had mine over 6 years now and still going strong.

also its really easy, it actually quicker for me to curl my hair than straighten it, think of it like using scissors to curl ribbon.

Thanks. Titty (hee hee!!!). That's what the stylist did- and she showed me how to do it, so I know the technique.

GHDs are sooo expensive though! Is there anywhere that sells them relatively cheap?

You must get ghd's....they are expensive but they will last and nothing else compares! I've had mine for 7 years and no problems. You won't regret it!

They are expensive, and I would never ever ever spend that much on a grooming product normally, but my god they are worth every single penny. Seriously. Mine are 6 years old and as good as new. Cheaper versions don't even come close.
I do not exagerrate when I say that they have changed my life

OOOh, stressheaderic, your swishiiness is amaaaazing!!! Grin

Kids, Trouble is, my gorgeous new do cost nearly as much as a pair of GHDs, and that, coupled with the way too much money I spent on clothes last week, means I'm more than spent up!

Is everyone at least agreed on the straighteners rather than a curling wand, then?

I actually got mines 2nd hand off ebay, they were about £40 i think, and still going strong after all these years. You might get a set with next day delivery if you need them fast.

Oh goo didea, Titty. I'll go and have a look. Thanks!
