gone from long to this

Is this too young for a middle aged woman?

If you say yes, I may cry, but I will buy hats until it grows Grin

I love it. Had mine done like that last year and got lots of compliments. Put a picture up. Or do the school run, you'll get lots of compliments.

jalopy · 25/06/2012 14:33

Looks great, Hecate.

Housewifefromheaven · 25/06/2012 14:33

Well I like it! Why are you having a wobble?

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 25/06/2012 14:35

Not too young at all! It's lovely.

Snusmumriken · 25/06/2012 14:41

Middle aged at 38? Never!

Mollydoggerson · 25/06/2012 14:42

No you could wear that hairstyle in your 50's

HecateAdonaea · 25/06/2012 14:43

Having a wobble because I'm seeing other Women Of A Certain Age with very conservative hairdos. I just wanted to get honest views about whether it was too young for me and where else can you go to get the painful truth? Grin

higgle · 25/06/2012 15:18

It is short, so more likely to be chosen by an older woman ( which you are not at 38) The women of your age with unobtrusive hair cuts are probably trying to avoid the type of short cuts that scream "I'm over 50" or the colour and big hair look that is not that flattering.

polyhymnia · 25/06/2012 15:53

Love it. I'm much older than you and mine is pretty much like that, except that I'm high (and low) lighted dark blonde, not red. No negative feedback!

Only downside is making sure i use product the right way to keep it like that and prevent it from going flat (my hair is fine).

HecateAdonaea · 25/06/2012 16:11

Thank you all.

Tell me again how I'm not old really... Grin

polyhymnia · 25/06/2012 16:17

You are young - wish I was your age again!

higgle · 25/06/2012 16:33

....a mere child.....

pippop1 · 25/06/2012 23:44

Just a baby really.

It's a lovely style and colour (but don't trip over if it's really over your eyes that much).

HecateAdonaea · 26/06/2012 07:20

It's not like that at all now, sadly. I can't recreate what the hairdresser did and now I slightly resemble a hedgehog.

Lovely and funky.
Add a bright lipstick and you will feel more confident!!1

I know how you feel...I've just had my haircut much shorter from mumsy bob and I AM 52..

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 26/06/2012 09:53

It looks great - bit involved though, looks like you could be spending hours styling it.

A few years ago I went from long to short and it was so much maintenance!! You cant have a bad hair day with short hair, theres nowhere to hide apart from under that hat!

I now have a shaggy layered chin length bob, and I love love love it - some days I dont even need to brush it :)

savoycabbage · 26/06/2012 10:05

I thought it was going to be a mohawkGrin

I am loving having short hair myself and have found that dry shampoo to be the best styling product. Even though it's not one.

GoOnTim · 26/06/2012 13:07

Hec love, it's a great cut but you need the right product to replicate the salon 'do'. What are you using, chick? (it's, me, pinot btw)

(and I'm only a year behind you and NO WAY are we middle-aged)

HecateAdonaea · 26/06/2012 13:49

I am blowing it and then using clay and a spritz of hairspray.

And I hate to break it to you...

Grin

You are so not middle aged. I am older than you and I am still a young girl GrinHmm

GoOnTim · 26/06/2012 14:13

I AM YOUNG DAGNAMIT

SEE? I'm young enough to get a strop on

I would add a bit if serum before you blowdry. That will help break it up into pieces rather than fluffy tufts. And maybe try not drying all the way, leave it at 90% dry then clay it into soft 'spikes' and let the rest dry naturally. (By clay it, I mean spread a bit along both palms and ruffl all through the hair, then shape into 'spikes' using just your fingers and a bit more clay if needed). That should leave it textured but not hard. I think with that style, fluffiness is akin to frumpiness so you want a bit of action in your barnet.

As it were

HecateAdonaea · 26/06/2012 14:15

serum. got it.

are you having a hot flush, dear?

I'm a young girl too, betty in my dreams

OP posts:
GoOnTim · 26/06/2012 14:19
