Planning to start running again - nothing too strenuous - and would like to know what bra to wear.

How busty are you? I find the best running bra for the large of nork is the Enell - it holds everything firmly and seemingly never wears out (mine are 6 years old and still going strong).

If you're a bit less endowed I've heard favourable things about the shock absorber run bra but can't comment on it myself.

I got a fantastic sports bra from primark. Actually, I bought three of them. They are black with cerise trim, and called 'mega shock' or something. Basically, a blatant rip off of shock absorber.

I'm large of nork, and do high impact aerobics. I've never worn a better, more supportive bra. Best bit is that the straps hook together at the back, to give truly gravity defying lift. Amazingly comfy straps too.

It costs a mere £8.

I have the shock absorber run bra, and it's absolutely brilliant - no bouncing at all when I run. Not cheap, but I have two in rotation and they haven't lost their support yet after 6 months of being used 3x per week for running and 5x per week for Shred-type exercise DVDs.

Sleepwhenidie · 24/06/2012 23:01

Shockabsober Run is fantastic.

SpringGoddess · 24/06/2012 23:11

I use an Enell bra - no bounce for the generously norked and squashes you down like a boy - which is exactly what I wanted when running - to avoid boys staring at bouncing, everyone thought I had a nork reduction!

shrimponastick · 25/06/2012 09:40

I run a fair bit - and do workout dvds too.

Out of my three sports bras - the shock absorber run is the most controlling. It hold it all in. If i have it on for more than a couple of hours though it gets a bit too much as it has an extra back fastener a little higher up. Iti s kind of like a back brace.

Am gonna go and check out the Primark sports bras though - may be okay?

Another vote for shock absorber run. Their Max Sports Bra Top B4490 is not bad either.

porridgelover · 25/06/2012 12:22

Depends on size I would have thought. I am a 36D
I tried the Primark ones and found them fine for walking/light running.
Not so good for track running/sprinting etc.

I find the shock-absorber great for active stuff. As above, it's not for all day wear.
I got one in M&S last week which is also good, though not as comfy as the shock-absorber.

Next time I will hold out to get a shock-absorber in the sales.

Another vote for the Shock Absorber Max sports bra top. I've just started running, and have worn it a few times - has been comfy and supportive. I didn't like the look of the almost-up-on-your-neck back clip on their Run Bra, so this was a good alternative. I'm a C/D cup (depending on cycle bloat etc), haven used it during bloat-season yet but I got a C cup and it's been fine. Thumbs up.

Love the shock absorber ones too but also have a great copy of it from matalan for a fiver, they still sell it and its bright pink, well worth a try for a fiver.

DomesticDisaster · 25/06/2012 20:26

I got my sports bra from www.lessbounce.com who were great for advice on the phone and have a really good range.

I have a Panache underwired one - I'm certainly not an expert on these things but it is great for support and is a good shape rather than a mono-boob look which I usually get with sportsbras.

Another vote for Shock Absorber! I have the red/blue one and feel like Wonder Woman in it! But the first time you put it on is a bit of a shock as they're pretty restrictive (which is a good thing obviously!).

GobblersKnob · 25/06/2012 21:53

I have both the Shock Absorber crop top type and the Freya actiive underwired, both are brilliant, though the Freya makes you very pointy.

You quite often need to go up a back size (and down a cup) in the SA, they are notoriously tight in the band.

mercibucket · 25/06/2012 22:01

I have a shockabsorber run and it's great. I also got one size bigger across chest and smaller in cup size. Mine's only black though, they do some great colours in some of the other shockabsorber range

nipitinthebud · 25/06/2012 22:08

I've got two from M+S (underwired high impact eco). I am small of norkage so wanted something that kept everything comfy but what with the underwire it gives some shape without complete pancakeness. I think its comfy with the boobs, plus comfy in the back and shoulders - forget you're wearing it. It also has straps that can convert from normal bra to racer back - which is good for different types of gym tops.

FamiliesShareGerms · 25/06/2012 22:11

Was given a great tip years back: wear two bras... Sounds daft, but bear with me... I have an underwired Shock Absorber, plus a M&S crop top style bra to go over the top. No bounce at all, and very comfortable.

mrsconfuseddotcom · 25/06/2012 22:31

Shock Absorber Run girl here too.

I'm a 32DD and nothing moves. I have to rip it off as soon as I get in the door though as it's holds you very firmly...
