Not sure where to post but husband has gone really grey almost white .... Doesnt want to dye it black or burgundy .... Wondered if anyone can recommend a sort of dark grey .. Alan hanson gary liniker type colour that he could do himself ? Or does this need salon expertise?

Black?? Burgundy?? Nothing worse than a man with dyed hair imo. Leave it as it is - much better. :)

Another vote for the silver fox look. Dyed hair on men is beyond awful and smacks of vanity.

LolaAnn · 23/06/2012 15:46

Agree with everyone, don't dye it!

Casmama · 23/06/2012 19:52

Don't dye it. Maybe think about a change of style instead if he feels it is making him look old.

AgeingFop · 24/06/2012 10:14

Don't really need to dye my hair - just the odd grey hair at the moment. But I would consider it. Smacks of vanity? Well, yes, but why doesn't it when women do it?

Where does caring for your appearance end and vanity begin?

But men look sexy with grey hair!. Get him some proper shampoo and conditoner as grey hair is wiry and dryer than pigmented hair.

I have one white hair which I dont do anything with.

I had a colleague whose hair had gone completely white, he went to a salon and had black highlights put in (not sure if highlights is the right word) - but that made him look loads younger.
V interested to read the above posts as I've been thinking of starting a thread (but can't decide if it's S&B or feminism or what) as I've been a slave to the dye for 15 years and have decided, aged 42, to go grey. But have noticed not one single woman ANYWHERE under 65 or 70 seems to do the same. All the men I know have gone grey and look perfectly lovely grey, but somehow it's a no-no for a woman. Why?????

Nancy66 · 24/06/2012 10:28

I realise it's hypocrital (as I colour my hair) but there's something about a man dyeing his that is a huge turn off.

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/06/2012 10:29

I think you have to change your makeup if you go grey, much like when I was blonde I couldnt wear the same make up shades as I do now as a natural dark brunette.

I think a bad dye job looks awful.

Who are we kidding anyway, your going to go grey eventually.

I agree I have seen lots of terrible male hair dying disasters hence the black/burgundy comment up front - Paul McCartney springs to mind - but I have seen really nice dark/grey hair on men ie alan hanson etc - am sure this is dyed -they leave it lighter grey around the sides - just seem to do the top. DH has started cutting it really short which I don't think helps....He did use Just for men a while back but it sort of went green/yellow/urine coloured tint - but maybe he needs to try another shade....didnt know there was a range will look into it. Can imagine him going to a salon as his hair is so short and would be grown out in a week -- so think it needs to be a home remedy...

My DH has silver hair (note NOT grey or white) he is 43. Its been going silver for years, he keeps it short - but it looks great!! Please don't dye it!!

Iatemyskinnyperson · 24/06/2012 14:37

Maybe try one of those lavender shampoos for grey/peroxide hair, so the silver bits are a good 'bright' colour IIYKWIM. My brother was prematurely grey and is now totally silver at 40, and it looks fab. He did think of dying a couple of times, but never did, thank goodness. I don't think a man could commit to the upkeep required to keep up with dying grey hair.
