What do I need for a week in London

Back in the uk next week and no idea what to bring - I don't travel light at the best of times and with 3 of the DC's coming along I won't be getting much luggage space.

Combined with no clue as to the weather I need help........

Weather forecast for London next week is warm with sunny spells and frequent showers - so a lightweight waterproof jacket and a pair of light closed toe shoes, plus a pair of sandals for the sunnier days.

I'd bring stuff that can be layered - I seem to spend half my time taking clothes off and putting them back on me and DD atm, and my waterproof jacket lives under her pram ready for the sudden showers we're getting so often.

Depends how long you're travelling for? Nothing worse than having a meagre wardrobe and then having to wash and recycle it all. It's easier to pack lighter for the children, 2 jumpers/ cardies, 2 trousers, 2 shorts/ dresses, 5 t shirts 3 socks 7 pants. No space at all if they're little. Lots of room for my shoes, which always seems to take up the space in my case!

When in doubt, layer! Accidently forget some stuff so you have an excuse to buy more :)

Depends where you are, if coming from Australia or Dubai, might be chilly for kids. If they are used to colder climates, then probably don't need winter jackets or warm woolies - just a sweater or the like.

I live in jeans and tshirts all year, with warm jacket in winter and lighter jacket for rest of the time (this week it's been a raincoat!).

Definitely something water-proof'ish. Wellies are pain in the backside to pack, so unless you're driving and can throw them in then maybe it will be OK.

Meggles76 · 24/06/2012 08:07

Agree that you can pack light for DC.
As for you, a lightweight waterproof is a must!! Pair of Converse. Sandals. Jeans. Lightweight long sleeve tops. Cotton summer tops and a dress or skirt for when sun breaks through. Chino type trousers.
Wellies you can pick up cheaply in supermarkets here.

Oh I'm not worried about the kids - they can make do Grin

I suppose I need to gauge whether I need boots and jackets or summer dresses and sandles.

I'm coming for 10 days and I'm a bit lost as to current fashion/style. I'm good at doing a summer "look" but worried it might all go horribly wrong if I have to stick a big jumper over it all

I'd prepare for everything!

Many people- including me- are still in boots on some days as it's been chucking it down and chilly at times.

You might wear dresses and sandals once or twice, but most people are still wearing warmer clothes- usual jeans etc with tops and cardis, converse tpe shoes, or boots.

How much are you going to be out and about in London?

valiumredhead · 24/06/2012 12:06

You need spring clothes that you can layer and also a light mac/jacket. I was in London yesterday, to me it was pleasantly warm but I wore my card all day and I needed my umbrella.
