What coat are you wearing in the rain?

I need something to wear to do the school run and go in/out of the car in the rain. What's stylish and what's definitely not stylish? It won't be my winter coat but needs to get me through to when I can start wearing my winter coat.

Second the Merrell Wakedield non-insulated. It's smart, stylish and it keeps me completely dry. I have a Merrell Haven for winter, but it's too warm for it at the moment. I got them from Go Outdoors for £70 each - a bargain.

SneezySnatcher · 25/06/2012 06:34

Obviously that should be Wakefield

SnakePlisskensMum · 25/06/2012 08:03

They stock Seasalt in our John Lewis, maybe worth a try?

ChopstheDuck · 25/06/2012 09:15

Sueprdry windcheater. I love it with jeans, and it's better for cycling than a long mac.

iWILLdothis · 25/06/2012 12:58

This is mine, love it.

I am wearing this It met all my criteria, the hood doesn't blow down in the wind and on really bad days you can popper it so it stays put. I also like the nice bright colour which cheers me up on horrible rainy days.

AllPastYears · 25/06/2012 20:09

iWILL, what on earth is that model doing in the video? She looks like she's about to do a striptease! It's a waterproof coat for heaven's sake, not sexy underwear!

Meggles76 · 25/06/2012 20:19

Lands End parka style rain jacket in the beige colour. Keeps me dry. Good hood. Not too heavy for this time of year.

ruby22 · 25/06/2012 20:42

iWill I really like that one. sadly sold out in my size. Could be tempted by the Boden one if in a plain colour only.

I have this in navy. It's a lovely swing style and can confirm, thanks to a massive downpour yesterday, it is definatley waterproof!
It is bag made, I am a 22 and need the XL.

MonaLotte · 08/07/2012 07:51

Sorry BIG made!

drowninginlaundry · 08/07/2012 07:58

I have Bergans Trondheim coat, comes down to my knees and it's waterproof - as in proper waterproof, made of of Dermizax which is a gore tex equivalent, I have been out in it walking my dogs in all kinds of deluge and it never lets me down. I also have the Bergans Egersund parka which I love but I wear the Trondheim more

BuildersTea · 08/07/2012 15:50

I have a Didriksons Thelma. Nice shape, adjustable waist and hood, comes down to my knees and is properly waterproof and windproof.

I've got a red hooded Michael Kors rain mac from TKMaxx, that was a complete bargain at about £30. It's just the right side of the dwarf from Don't Look Now Little Red Riding Hood, and has a detachable warm lining that you can take out for summer months. TKMaxx is actually a v good source of decent rain macs.

Pompbear · 17/07/2012 09:57

what do people think of the kellifray in white?

www.seasaltcornwall.co.uk/women/clothing/outerwear/kellifray_mac_2012_chalk.htm

Tried it on and I like it but not sure how practical white is? Also not sure if it looks a bit like a lab coat. Given the weather, I don't care that much really but I'd rather not spend £££ (to me anyway) on a coat that's a bit meh. But I desperately need something waterproof, and not thick (other coat is far too warm for now). Should have bought it in bloody navy months ago when I first looked.

Thoughts?!

daenerysstormborn · 17/07/2012 10:02

a beige, lightweight hooded one from lands end, was only about £15 from the factory shop. it's great, hood stays up even in wind and the rain just runs off it.

higgle · 17/07/2012 11:17

I have ordered a Boden Rainy day mac to look a bit smarter out and about. My collection of ancient leaky Barbours, ex-childrens cagoules and a North Face jacket that is a strange colour will have to tide me over another fortnight until it arives. It will probably stop raining then.
