What styles would you like your DP to wear that they can't stand

Just doing a little summer sale shopping and inwardly sighing at all the lovely lovely stuff DP would look great in but would not wear in a thousand years. He's got a fab body which looks great in clothes but he likes things extra extra plain, unlogo-ed and in pretty limited colour ways ( I only got him to wear green after about 5 years of knowing him). He always looks really well turned out and tends to go for quality albeit low key stuff by Paul Smith, Boss, Carhaart or Rohan (outside work) but I can't help lusting after the idea of him in a Boden Italian Stallian shirt or a Farhi jumper in a colour like gasp lavender!
Sympathy please :) ;)

Exactly the same here. DH gorgeous but very determined to wear zzzzz colours, v traditional clothes, no logos. We've been together about 16 years & despite continuous efforts I haven't managed to change much...only breakthrough was at Christmas when I bought him an 'outfit' of stuff he wouldnt normally wear. Mixture of G-star & Diesel. Well he took back 2 out of 3 but at least he liked the top (very cool hoody).

MaitreKarlsson · 22/06/2012 18:11

Oh yes and olive green was also a breakthrough about 6 years ago, otherwise it's navy blue. Sigh

Maitre Grin in smiling at your 1 out of 3 hit rate - there's always hope isn't there :)

Get him into Gant. Okay he'lllook like a property developer but hey, a sexy one! Also, the shirts wash and iron really well (yeah, some of us have along way to go, sisters) x

Ambrosius · 22/06/2012 21:31

I'd like it if he wore something other than superhero t-shirts and baggy jeans hanging off his arse! He's 37 not 14!

PoshPaula · 22/06/2012 21:41

Yeah. That must be a drag actually.

Ambrosius · 22/06/2012 21:48

It is, he wears a shirt and suit trousers for work so I guess he likes to slob out a bit. I'd love to see him in chinos or something!

aGog1 · 22/06/2012 22:43

ambrosius you are welcome to mine, he wears nothing but chinos, brogues and TM Lewins shirts, perhaps topped off with a corduroy jacket - even to do the gardening! I'd love to see him wearing jeans, just once, bearing in mind I've known him since he was 19!

MaitreKarlsson · 23/06/2012 22:56

Gant is a no-no. Can't remember why but it is one of the hundreds of 'banned' labels. Almost certainly several years ago they went through a brief phase of putting their logo on their clothes (the fools...) so now, even if they don't do that anymore, it is verboten as far as he is concerned. Honestly. Also on the banned list: Hackett, Ralph Lauren, Bench, Emporio Armani, Superdry...and on, and on. See what I have to put up with?Grin

MaitreKarlsson · 23/06/2012 22:59

Actually the Gant issue, thinking about it, might be too many button-down collars on their shirts. These are also banned.

OP, I hope we are making you feel more normal at least? Wink

This thread made me Smile
DH has a 'uniform'. Blue jeans, fitted stripe shirts, fitted polo shirts, cargo shorts, North Face coats and addidas trainers. I quite like what he wears but wish he would be more adventurous. He's tall and slim and could carry off so many other things.
I've bought him subtle floral shirts but they just hang in the wardrobe, tried cashmere sweaters but he moans about cost, suggested shoes but he says shoes are ugly, chinos he hates, duffle style coats refused, hates crew necks!!!

TheCountessOlenska · 24/06/2012 08:08

Oh God, I sympathise. I started a similar thread recently!

DH is surgically attached to his jeans - I would love to see him in chinos, just for a change (I'll swap you aGog1!)

Ha ha Meggles - I have also had suggestions of chinos, duffle coats, on the knee shorts and any form of jumper rejected. However, I have had recent breakthroughs with floral shirts, and deck shoes Confused

My DH always looks ok but I would like him to try different things and colours. He only ever wear jeans, navy T shirts with collar, navy jackets and trainers. He spends a fortune on these things but it is all soooooo boring.

When we go out he will wear a striped shirt (he has a few but they all look exactly the same) with his jeans and trainers. It is the trainers I really object to as he is 40 and I always feel over dressed when we go out together and I have made any effort.

I have also bought him things, olive green T shirts with collars similar to the navy ones - but no. And even stupidly tried him with a navy small floral print shirt, again no.

What is wrong with these men???

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/06/2012 10:00

Could be worse.

My DH spends more time planning outfits for big events eg family weddings than me. He does look the best put together though.

He's 47 and still shops in All Saints.

Shopping trips take hours as he picks out accessories for me and suggests which jeans I already have would go with this and that and I what I really need is a X top or whatever, occaisonally muttering "I'm not gay" at me when I raise an eyebrow at how into choosing clothes he is.

If their not into clothes you have MORE money to spend on your clothes.

AgeingFop · 24/06/2012 10:10

Ha, FluffyCloud we're not married are we? (More Urban Outfitters than All Saints, TBH.)

I wouldn't change what my DW wore - I love her style and hope I help her decide what looks best. The only thing I'd change is that she lacks confidence sometimes: like half of the female population she's convinced she has a big bottom. She really doesn't.

I think she'd like me to wear more jumpers, but I don't really get on with them. She'll also let me know what doesn't look so good on me.

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/06/2012 10:11

Not unless you've got the other laptop to work.
