Can I glam up work clothes for going out or do I need to try and quickly find something from Tesco which I can't really afford?

Right, here's the problem. I got back to work today after a couple of days off and totally forgot that we're out after work for a colleagues birthday. I don't have time to go home, and would literally only have time to get something crappy from Tesco that I can't really afford. So, am I going to look stupid going out in work clothes or do I bite the bullet and do the Tesco run, and if so what do I get that's cheap and stylish?

depends what you are wearing at work really......

Beamur · 21/06/2012 15:58

Assuming your work clothes are fine if not really 'evening' - I think I'd just go as you are, put on some fresh lipstick and have a nice time.

thisisyesterday · 21/06/2012 15:59

yes.. what are you wearing right now? could you nip to tesco and just get something to glam it up?
or could someone drop something off for you?
is going home really not an option?

ShatnersBassoon · 21/06/2012 16:03

I'd stay in work clothes.

wibble73 · 21/06/2012 16:19

Duh sorry, missed that bit of essential info.

It's a navy pencil skirt and a white blouse, tights and black heels so looks a bit secretaryish. We're out for a meal and then maybe a club.

stay in work clothes, undo button, eyeliner, lipstick. :)

wibble73 · 21/06/2012 16:23

Won't it look a bit formal if we're out clubbing - the others have all got stuff to change into

OP posts:
ShatnersBassoon · 21/06/2012 16:24

Yes, it will look too worky for a nightclub. So don't go to the club, or go home and meet them later.

yellowraincoat · 21/06/2012 16:26

They're not going to throw you out for looking too worky, yanno.

UML · 21/06/2012 16:28

How workish is that navy pencil skirt? If you are pressed budget-wise, maybe just get a nice top to go with it?

thisisyesterday · 21/06/2012 16:28

if you're not hgoing to feel comfy in what you're in then i think you should get something different. or go and change.

they aren't going to mind if you're a bit late

wibble73 · 21/06/2012 16:32

UML - it's just above the knee, typical navy straight skirt really

OP posts:
Nagoo · 21/06/2012 16:34

go for the dinner then go home and change?

UML · 21/06/2012 16:41

If you want to get something, then maybe get something you may wear again potentially in the future - I don't know how it is like in tesco stores generally, but it may be a bit hit and miss if what you like is not there in the right size..

UML · 21/06/2012 16:52

There are not that many nice tops on the site, there was one which was a bit glam www.clothingattesco.com/womenswear/f+f-tie-neck-sleeveless-blouse/invt/bb022208/&bklist=icat,2,wm-evening-tops but the colour probably wouldn't go with a navy skirt

Then I thought maybe you could get a dress which doubles up as a work outfit (but can be glammed up for a lunch/dinner) like www.clothingattesco.com/all-dresses/f+f-limited-edition-belted-skater-dress/invt/jg211672/&bklist=icat,6,mobile,mobilecatgwomens,mobile-womens-product,mobile-dresses,shift-dress but maybe the hemline is too short, and it is a bit too informal? (plus costs £25)

Have you had a browse through the site?

Can you go home and change and join them for dinner?

UML · 21/06/2012 16:53

I mean the hemline is shortish for work...

wibble73 · 21/06/2012 16:54

I think I might have to give the clubbing a miss and maybe just go out for a drink, which is a shame because it would have been a good night out.

Ho hum, my fault for forgetting :(

OP posts:
Beamur · 21/06/2012 17:02

Nooo - don't let being dressed wrong put you off. I went clubbing once in walking boots and shabby trousers because I hadn't expected to be going and had a great time.

porcamiseria · 21/06/2012 17:06

dont buy any clothes from tesco

buy cheap, buy twice

just put on some heels and a lower top/lippy

UML · 21/06/2012 17:07

I agree with beamur - go and have fun! Have a laugh and you will have some happy memories and a good laugh afterwards :)

yellowraincoat · 21/06/2012 17:08

Some of us can't afford not to shop in Tesco, unfortunately.

FootballFriendSays · 21/06/2012 17:10

You don't have money for cheap clothes from Tesco but can afford meal and clubbing? Have one fewer cocktails :)

Sonotkylie · 21/06/2012 17:37

Go for drink or meal and then see how you feel about it all. By then you may be sufficiently 'relaxed' not to care. But if you don't go just because of the wrong clothes you'll kick yourself
