In your opinion, what makes someone look 'together?'

Thanks to the thread at the beginning of the year about being vain, I am beginning to look more groomed. I keep my nails tidy and painted, my eyebrows plucked and my hair shiny. I even wear make up most of the time, but now I need to look 'together' and I dont understand How.

I am overweight, which to me makes me less keen to buy clothes because I feel I never look nice, but I'm a grown up now Grin and I need to start looking less scruffy. Please help me!

Because of this thread I have given my eyebrows some serious attention this morning Grin I'm actually quite pleased with the results.

Now I need to work on the ironing and make sure that 2 year old doesn't grab hold of me with grubby hands...........

madmomma · 21/06/2012 11:03

you bastards! you mean I have to iron?!!! Say it isn't so?????

AnnaMosity · 21/06/2012 11:07

A clever person adjusts soon speeds to minimalise ironing.
Also fold things straight out of dryer. Therefore Irving is a few items only.
Don't spin poly cottons at 1200

AnnaMosity · 21/06/2012 11:08

Spin. Not soon.

For me, it's well groomed hair. It makes more difference to how together I feel than anything else.

mampam · 21/06/2012 11:41

what would be a suitable spin speed Anna?

sereneswan · 21/06/2012 11:49

I never iron and I wear lots of cotton and linen!

Here's how:

NEVER tumble dry.
Hand washing and drip drying without even wringing is as good as ironing for 99% of things. Quicker than loading/unloading machine and doing ironing.
Hanging up machine spun items neatly, pulling creases out and then folding neatly when dry sorts most things other than linen.

mumeuro · 21/06/2012 11:51

avoid M&S per una speziale like the plague! Wink

mumeuro · 21/06/2012 11:52

agree, the way to avoid ironing is to spin dry your clothes as fast as possible then take them out IMMEDIATELY the machine stops and hang them up so the creases drop out. The only things I iron (and rarely at that) are the few linen items I possess...

What happened to those who signed up to the vain thread at the start of the year?? How are we doing??
I think regular hair cuts and colour are vital. I feel so much more groomed when my hair is in good condition.
Clean short nails - painted or not clear varnish
Nice scarf or necklace
Good bag

TwllBach · 21/06/2012 16:36

I'm one of them Meggles and I'm sort of proud of myself a little bit. I keep on top of my eyebrows and beard hairs and keep my nails tidy and painted. I must confess to doing the MN haircut, but I think my hair looks nice and I invested in a good shampoo that really makes my hair glossy and shiny, to the point that I don't need conditioner. I also have a babyliss and use it most days. I also wear make up quite a bit, although not foundation ATM as I have a bit of a tan Grin
