DS now 10 is starting to care what he wears and to want more stylish/trendy clothes - so where should I shop? and what should I buy?

Primark do lots of Jack Wills type sweat shirts and tees without having to remortgage and I like their jeans,Altho they come up a little small

My boys like H and M

timetosmile · 19/06/2012 17:41

Matalan has some nice stuff, also Sainsbo's for T shirts. Adsa have some nice combat-type shorts atm.

talkingnonsense · 19/06/2012 17:46

Round here hollister and superdry are still in for young teens. The preteens seem to like brands- Nike, Adidas, etc.

cybbo · 19/06/2012 17:47

I've never seen the point in paying Hollister and Superdry prices when everywhere else sells stuff exactly the same. plus kids grow

H&M. That's where I've been buying my 10 year olds clothes for the last 2 years. I love their jeans. I have a tall skinny boy and they do so many different styles!

I get occasional bits from Next. Not much these days though.

GinandChocolate · 19/06/2012 17:52

Thanks for the quick responses. Am relieved to hear I don't need to spend a fortune!

He is quite skinny so small is good.

Sounds like I should look in H&M - I have tried Next but it is hard to find things that have some style - they are ok for basic plain T's but the jeans are a bit meh.

Ah but op asked for stylish/trendy and to my ds's that would not be asda/ matalan/ h and m. Ask him what his friends wear.

cornysilk · 19/06/2012 18:34

ds2 loves boden...sale should be coming up very soon

GinandChocolate · 19/06/2012 19:14

I tried asking what his friends wear - he doesn't know. Possibly DD would know she is 8 but much more observant ( and image conscious)

Came on here to recommend H&M.

River Island have also started doing kidswear, and Zara has really nice girlswear, not sure about boys, but seem good quality and not bad prices.

GnocchiNineDoors · 19/06/2012 19:17

Are there specific items of clothing he wants / likes?

nymets · 19/06/2012 19:18

i get ds(10) stuff from zara and h amd M, also shirts from marks and sparks

GinandChocolate · 19/06/2012 19:28

He is off on school trip for a week. He has shorts but needs jeans and t-shirts. He has a zip top he likes from Abercrombie & Fitch ( gift from US) and he needs some sort of rainproof jacket.

Of course he chose this month to grow over an inch so jeans all too short

H&M, if you have a Zara that does boys clothes they have some nice things.

For a proper waterproof jacket, have you got a Decathlon near you? Look in the sailing and hiking departments - some really good deals, and nice waterproofs.

Don't buy a waterproof in H&M: it won't be!

TheDetective · 20/06/2012 12:59

H&M is trendy - if your boy is like mine, and a bit of a rock dude, in his skinnys and tshirts. He looks great in his! He doesn't dress like most of the kids in his school, but when he comes home from the school after own clothes day, he tells me how the other kids admired his clothes. And I'm young, and have good fashion sense, so I know he looks great!

The other kids tend to be in sports stuff, football kits etc, but DS doesn't have a preference for that kind of stuff.

GnocchiNineDoors · 20/06/2012 13:04

Great selection of boys t-shirts here

If you think he will get a lot of wear out of the waterproof, North Face and Berghaus are brilliant, but expensive. Something with Goretex will keep the rain out but be breathable so wont make him sweat. Like this

If you think the waterproof will be used only for this one trip, then a pac-a-mac might do (unless they are doing things like gorge-walking)

bleedingheart · 20/06/2012 13:09

H&M clothes are trendy and affordable. My eldest is only 5 but quite clear in what he likes to wear and favours their stuff! Primark boys clothes have been revamped recently and are much more fashionable than they were.

GinandChocolate · 21/06/2012 19:16

Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions. We will hit the shops this weekend.
