HOW do I do this '60s bob hair?

I've always loved the easy but a little bit roughly cut look of these types of '60s bob: <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=cathy+come+home&um=1&hl=en&biw=1366&bih=616&tbm=isch&tbnid=CX18egjUN3BLoM:&imgrefurl=zofiawalczak.wordpress.com/2011/10/06/documentary-film-cathy-come-home-ken-loach-1966-crisis-homelessness-qa/&docid=dDT_xd5bXvIKWM&imgurl=zofiawalczak.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/screen-shot-2011-11-12-at-22-53-47.png%253Fw%253D545&w=487&h=356&ei=4YLfT8GsF9Cp8QOH7-2yCw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=734&vpy=279&dur=31&hovh=192&hovw=263&tx=164&ty=82&sig=109301880514975181487&page=1&tbnh=120&tbnw=162&start=0&ndsp=21&ved=1t:429,r:18,s:0,i:140" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this and <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=julie+christie+billy+liar&um=1&hl=en&biw=1366&bih=616&tbm=isch&tbnid=3ZwpBaBbk-zGLM:&imgrefurl=fineartamerica.com/featured/billy-liar-julie-christie-1963-everett.html&docid=pGLl9rTxLDTYUM&imgurl=images.fineartamerica.com/images-medium-large/billy-liar-julie-christie-1963-everett.jpg&w=900&h=686&ei=h4PfT5KyMYju8AOKn7XCCw&zoom=1" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this

Over the years I've had squillions of attempts at various salons to get something like this, but they always look like flat, incredibly boring bobs. Is there something I should be doing to get this kind of look? My hair isn't particularly thick and is very fine. Thanks

Sorry to be a naysayer but I think that will be very hard to achieve with fine hair, with some choppy layers you might be able to achieve something close to <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=EQO&sa=X&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&biw=1138&bih=513&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=t_IMRd08QzkksM:&imgrefurl=fashionondemands.blogspot.com/2011/11/choppy-haircut-hair-style.html&docid=efjZt2TCp0pixM&imgurl=3.bp.blogspot.com/-59Q763vC_90/TeSqmAype0I/AAAAAAAAL2s/w4-6v3NxzYo/s1600/choppy_hairstyle_pictures_1.jpg&w=300&h=416&ei=W4XfT6j0MouS8gOH4dysCw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=575&vpy=136&dur=790&hovh=264&hovw=191&tx=85&ty=125&sig=104110774687131997752&page=2&tbnh=146&tbnw=105&start=16&ndsp=20&ved=1t:429,r:10,s:16,i:169" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this or

God the woman in the last link has madness in her eyes!

Acaciaavenue · 18/06/2012 20:52

Oh, I do like the first link, Sherlock. My hair always looks flat and dull. Ugh!

I have spent my entire live trying to stop my hair looking like those pictures Blush

Acaciaavenue · 18/06/2012 20:58

Grin HoneyDragon - you're lucky. I wonder if the pics are giving the right impression. I like those bobs that look as though they're really easy, but are probably highly-styled. So they look kind of care-free, but aren't prissy and mumsy. Does that make any sense??! Loads of '60s film stars had them.

Envy of those with The Wave.

Yes, that's what I see in the mirror every morning if I can't be bothered to do anything with my hair. However mine is lankier and frizzier, but definitely very unruly.

In order to tame it I could BBH it, that works but takes too long for every day so only happens once in a blue moon. If I want to make it look more groomed but still casual, I turn my head upside down, squirt in a bit of volumiser, blast with the hairdryer, then flip it back over, define the ends with coconut oil, comb the top layer lightly down as far as my ears) with a fine comb and spray it with hairspray to flatten the flyaways. I don't use any products with silicones in, that helps as well I think.

If it's any consolation I could never achieve a smooth neat bob in a million years and have always wanted to. Even when I straighten it it all bounces back by the next day.

My hair also looks like that if I just blast it with a hairdryer. Consequently I spend half my life straightening it.

HoneyDragonWearingLederhosen · 18/06/2012 21:49

Wow my mum was right, you're never happy with the hair you have, you always want someone else's Grin

Acaciaavenue · 18/06/2012 22:09

...and I want Julie Christie's!
