Can someone please recommend the best hair straighteners?

Hi all, I've never owned a decent pair of hair straighteners, I've always coveted GHDs but have made do without them, but my new hairstyle really would benefit from straightening.

So are GHDs really all that good? I've read online reviews that the latest version is not as good as the previous ones, also that some major retailers have been unwittingly selling fakes, perhaps this has led to some of the bad reviews.

Are there any other comparable or better straighteners out there? I heard that titanium straighteners are hotter than even GHDs, tho I'm not sure that's a good thing!

Thanks

GHDs. Mine have just broke after 7 years and I miss them terribly!

Depends what kind of hair you have.

I have thick wavy hair so it takes a lot to make it straight. GHDs to the job but doesn't last too long and my hair gets very wispy.

I've also got Steampods which actually do a better job, leave my hair feeling smoother, and it stays straight for longer. However, they are a bit more of a faff than GHDs

I've got fine hair and I like Diva straighteners.

Have used my friends GHDs & found them great too (straighteners not friend) Wink

Previously had GHDs now cloud 9's and they are fab. Variable temp is great for protecting hair if you just want to quickly run over it when it's already been straightened.

GHD's

The ghds you buy these days are not the same as they were a few years ago. I had a set from 2005 which lasted 7 years and were great. They heated to a temp of either 210 or 230 degrees ( can't remember which). They broke and I replaced them and they were rubbish for my thickish wavy hair. The new ones only heat to about 180 degrees which the manufacturers say is fine for everyone but it isn't. Unless you have relatively straight or fine hair already then they will not give you the same lasting finish as older models. So think about what your hair type is. I've had babyliss and remingtons recently both of which heat to 230 degrees and are miles better for my hair than the replacement ghds I had (and less than half the price). I've also had the steam pod in my hairdresser and it is incredible too.

I think the technology has moved on since ghds were invented. They used to be the gold standard but other manufacturers have caught up and overtaken them and I think they're trading on their name now to be honest.

Depends what type of hair you have. I bought GHDS and hardly ever use them as they completely fry my fine hair. As PP have said I'very heard good things about steampods.
My favourite hair straighteners ever were a £40 Toni&Guy set
