Interview help please?

What do I wear?

I'm an almost 50 year old woman who applied for her dream job never thinking for one moment I'd get an interview. The job is in a local children's hospice as a carer for families with a child with a life limiting condition. I have NO idea what to wear.

That's great. :) What about some tailored grey or black trousers, with a nice blouse, and a jacket if you need one. If you'd like me to, I can link you some bits and pieces? Oh, and I like to wear high heels to interviews/important work events because the clip-clop sound make me feel sophisticated Grin so if you like heels that might give you a bit of a 'boost' of confidence, IYSWIM.

Just wear something you feel smart and comfortable in, slap on a bit of lippy, and don't worry about it. I'm sure your enthusiasm will shine through!

Yes please to the links.

I'm 5ft 8 and high heels make me feel less confident as I often tower over people. I'd thought heels but more kitten heel?

Kitten heels are fab - still provide the clompy effect but remove the possibility of falling over just as you enter the room. Wink

I'll have a look now - do you have a budget and any favourite colours/styles?

Shenanagins · 15/06/2012 21:44

Make sure you look smart and well groomed as it will give off the air of competence. If you look disheveled it will make prospective employers think that you will be like that in your professional life. Good Luck!

There's are loads of nice shirts and blouses around. But if you want something a bit different, I love pussybow blouses because they look nice for work but you can dress them down with jeans too, so you can wear them wherever. They're quite fussy so not for everyone, but they have loads on the Dorothy Perkins website like this one if you like them.

Simple white blouse would look nice with a coloured cardigan this comes in lots of colours and is reduced at the moment.

If you need new trousers I think these would be quite nice as you look tall and slim.

These might be a bit high but if you need a new pair of workshoes something plain and simple like these are great because you can pair them with anything -trousers, dress, skirts - and don't have to worry about what shoes to wear!

Marks and Spencer's have 20% off autograph and per una this weekend. Autograph usually has good tailored clothes- maybe a shift dress and tasteful jewellery?

BelleTheBeatnik · 15/06/2012 22:07

M&S Autograph do have lots of lovely dress in at the moment, but whatever you do, don't buy this one. Wink

This or this with a red neckscarf and kitten heels.

Something bright - monsoon or east might be worth a look. Im thinking along the lines of docs wearing brightly coloured bow ties etc working on children's wards to help them interact with the children.

Good luck Smile

Thank you :)

Am of to M&S for that beautiful Autograph dress!
