Talk to me about hair straightening

I'm so fed up with un-blow dried fly away hair!

My hair is long-ish and has a natural wave to it. It looks nice when it's been blow-dried or been GHD'd. But I've NEVER got the hang of blow-drying my own hair. I normally let it dry naturally and then use the GHDs on it.

A few years ago I had a Brazilian blow dry which they explained to me doesn't make it completely straight just takes the frizz out. Which sort of worked for a while.

A friend of mine told me about a Japanese straightening called Yuko but I don't know much about it.

It would be nice for my hair to look ok without using the GHDs. Does anyone have any suggestions which type of straightening to go for? And is it bad for your hair?

I'm thinking of getting extenso done

X-tenso loreal treatment which I think lasts longer

Yuko has been around for years, I remember looking into it when I was in my early 20s (ten years ago)

It was designed for Japanese hair as apparently they can have very unmanageable hair (think yoko ono hair) it is very expensive, much more so than a Brazilian blow dry but the results last until your hair grows out when you may need your roots doing.

Thats what I can remember about it anyway!

I had a keratin straightening thingy done at Trevor Sorbie 18 months or so ago. It was amazing but a faff as you could only use sodium free shampoos etc. You also still had to blow dry your hair straight, which to me defeated the object. I can't afford to get it done again (and also refuse to ever pay that much again in a salon).

However, I have a new weapon in anti frizz: silk pillow, a couple of drops of Kerastase Elixir Ultime and these beauties at a fabulous price. They are so much better than GHDs which used to catch as they went through my hair.

Thanks, and can you still colour your hair with the Yuko or other systems?

Have you tried a Babylis Big Hair thingy? It gives you that salon blow dry look with no effort.

Mustgettogym · 12/06/2012 15:51

Ah extenso is like yaki thing but only about £50

Dancergirl · 12/06/2012 16:05

jetsetlil I've seen the babylis thing and it has good reviews on Amazon but for someone who's completely useless at doing hair (like me!) I think I'll struggle with it.

I just want to be able to wash it and go, not sure if this is asking too much though!

i know what you mean but it kind of does it for you. It gives you volume and bounce.

Dancergirl · 14/06/2012 13:30

Where do you buy the Kerastase elixir ultime? Is it like a serum?
