If you had £100 to spend on make up what would you buy?

Because I have vouchers for John Lewis and that's what I have decided to spend it on.
Return to work after a year's mat leave on Weds and need a treat.

Already have concealer, mascara seen better days, don't need any more lipstick.

Need base and anything else good I haven't splashed out in a long while.

I am ridiculously pale-glow in the dark white. Mousy brown hair and a bit freckly.
Skin is acne prone and greasy.
Brown eyes

It's probably best to test the products first - especially as you're spending so much. Why don't you book a free Bobbi Brown makeover & see if you like what they do to you? I had one before my wedding & sales assistant was very good - she really listened to what I liked. (Far better than my MAC makeover where I looked like a drag queen!)Then if you like it, you can buy some BB. If you love neutral eyeshadows it's worth having a look at Urban Decay Naked or Naked 2 palettes. I have them both & love them = especially No.2.

Krumbum · 10/06/2012 23:10

Oo that'd be amazing. I'd get Clinique foundation as I'm super pale and they go light. Some urban decay eye primer and eye shadow set because they have gorgeous unique colours, Some benefit benetint which is liquid blusher and Lancôme doll eyes mascara and Chanel nail polish in peridot because it is amazing! Thats all probably more than a hundred though...

VivaLeBeaver · 10/06/2012 23:19

Bare minerals foundation.

EllenParsons · 11/06/2012 02:32

I would get Urban Decay Naked or Naked 2 eyeshadow pallette as I've wanted them for ages but have managed to resist buying them so far because there is no Urban Decay counter in my local town. They look like really good staple eyeshadow colours. They're about £35.

If you're pale, how about a good blusher? I really like the Clinique blushing blush one. For foundation, I'd get Estee Lauder Double Wear but it seems to be a love it or hate product!

GimmieChocolate · 11/06/2012 06:28

I'm another vote for Estée Lauder double wear. I'm very pale with blemish prone skin and it's the only stuff that covers and stays! Chanel mascaras are amazing as are their lipsticks. In fact other then my double wear foundation and concealer I would pick Chanel for everything!

I love make up shopping - very jealous!!

cocolepew · 11/06/2012 06:33

I got a free sample of Benefits Pore thingy (helpful, I can't even remember its name) with Glamour this month.
Im very impressed with it.

polyhymnia · 11/06/2012 07:20

If you're thinking blusher recommend Bobbi Brown pot rouge. Think trying one of their makeovers is a very good idea. They specialise in a natural wearable not overdone look.

dottyaboutstripes · 11/06/2012 07:51

Another vote for Bobbi Brown here

ifancyashandy · 11/06/2012 07:56

Nars or Chanel foundation
Armani undereye shadow stuff
Bobbi Brown blusher

That'd be it done probably!

Isitme1 · 11/06/2012 08:04

I would book a makeover at Bobbi Brown (MAC great too, but you probably want something less 'out there' if returning to work!)

Also, try and time your purchases to the same time Debenhams have a beauty event, as JL price match on the same brands - will make your voucher stretch that little further (enough for a 'free' lippy or liner at least!)

sleepdodger · 11/06/2012 08:32

Mac
The most amazing people who listen create advise and then you keep on loving the stuff; never been disappointed with anything and the one time they accidentally gave me wrong powder were v apologetic etc at changing

Itsgottabebags · 11/06/2012 09:34

I would make it known to various makeup counters that I had been given a significant amount of money to spend on makeup and use that as a bargaining tool to try and get some samples of different foundations to try at home rather than be rushed in to making a decision there and then and make an expensive mistake. Ask the beauty consultant what day /time they are next in if you think they work on commision and purchase from them if you can.
Don't know if it works mind.
