Bump because I have looked at the babyliss crimper for that effect and wondered if it works.....?

nymets · 09/06/2012 22:21

i shall hunt for my crimper from 1986 Grin

curiositykilledthekat · 09/06/2012 22:24

I bought the babyliss crimper 2 years ago and to this day I have not even turned it on. Might have to dig it out and give it a 2nd chance! Love the big hair look.

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 09/06/2012 22:24

I have been known to crimp before I go out, then backcomb/spray/smooth down so you can't really see the crimping, but have got lots of volume and very soft hair.

cahu · 09/06/2012 22:27

Curiosity, please try it out then post your verdict. I have been tempted but wondered if it would make the hair on top a strange shape iyswim.

Mustgettogym · 09/06/2012 22:29

Why not back comb?

ggirl · 09/06/2012 23:36

no it's not like back combing
looks natural
have ordered one from amazon..the smaller version as it's cheaper
will report back

Thanks g.... Natural volume is my Holy
Grail!

curiositykilledthekat · 10/06/2012 11:00

Ok cahu. Ive just blown off the dust and had a quick go, I think it will take a bit of practise! Very fiddly IMO. Will be looking at some of the vids online to see if I can get the hang of it. It has really good reviews online. Personally I have not got alot of time to faff with my hair so I cant see me being arsed with it every day. Perhaps a handy tool to have for a big night out though!

Yes, i have a tiny little crimper which i use for this purpose. It works really well (I always do one side first and then the other and can totally see the difference). I have thick hair anyway but have used it on my mum who has thin hair and still works a treat. I think its better than back combing as it doesn't seem as harsh on my hair although i find it can be a bit time consuming, hence only using it on special occasions. I bought mines second hand from ebay for £7 (it was like new).

cahu · 10/06/2012 18:38

Curiosity, thank you. I may have a look on eBay and get one for nights out rather than an every morning thing. x

ggirl · 10/06/2012 20:23

it literally took my hairdresser about 2 mins to do
she had really wide crimpers though
she just did two on either side and on on the back
amazing results!!!!!!!!!
it is sunday today and she did it on friday !!! it is unheard of for me to go that long without washing and szzuzching

g, do you have thick hair? How much underneath hair did she crimp? Sorry for interrogation, just can't afford another unused gadget lurking in my house!

ggirl · 10/06/2012 21:49

I have fine hair and lots of it
i think she crimped about 4 -5 times
and the crimper is about 4in wide
so she sectioned back the top layer of hair and did the next section ..so just under neath the top section..didn't do the whole of the underlayer..that would've looked ridiculous

I have the babyliss root boost. Is great, you just have to be careful not to crimp near the top layer of hair so you can't see the tiny crimps.

tittytittyhanghang · 11/06/2012 20:44

Just checked and it is the babyliss root boost i got from ebay for £7. Are you not supposed to crimp all your underlayers? This is maybe why it is taking me so long, but it does look really good at the end.

MummyAnnabella · 11/06/2012 21:43

I had this done at hairdressers as have fine hair which never holds a style and any volume drops out v quickly. She crimped under layer and it was amazing. Volume fab and lasted 2 days which has never happened. Would have been tempted to buy (had some in 1980s and adored them) but was worried I would find tricky and slow to do. Bought big hair but hardly use as never have time.

ggirl · 11/06/2012 22:14

big hair thing doesn't add volume to my hair...just swishiness

Whitershadeofpale · 12/06/2012 00:25

I have one, it is good but I cba to use it most of the time. My hair is thick but the weight can pull it down and make it look quite flat.
