Wedding Outfit

Ahhhhh....
Dp has just told me about a wedding we're going to on June 23!!!!
I have nothing even remotely ok to wear, so I need to buy something, budget around £50, so high street. I lay myself at your stylish pedi'ed feet for help.
I'm 5 foot 3, and a size 12. I've long brown hair and though I usually wear black, I wouldn't to a wedding so am open to colour :)
Do you think long dresses with sparkly flats look better than knee length with heels?Hair up or down?
I have no idea!

Have to say I tend to find long dress with flats a bit too daytime rather than 'wedding-ingy' - it can be done, but takes some searching. I'm guessing the £50 is just for the dress?

Anyway, some suggestions:
a la Duchess of Cambridge
modern 40's - would be good with a belt and nice heels
v.simple 1950's shape

Small child has just woken up so have to go - will try and come back and pull some more up later.

mumofbumblebea · 08/06/2012 14:16

oooh i love shopping for stuff to wear at weddings!
i'm also 5ft3 and a size 12. to a wedding i'm going to in a couple of weeks i'm wearing a 50s style navy blue dress with pinky-reddish hearts on, and then a bag, dress and cardigan in the same colour as the hearts. thats for quite an informal wedding though.
how posh is the wedding?
hair up seems to be very in atm if you have the right face shape for it which i don't
oasis have quite a few 40s/50s style dresses in atm, plus they have 20 per cent off atm i believe.

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 08/06/2012 16:08

How about this (or one of their other dresses)? Such a flattering shape and an utter bargain.

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 08/06/2012 17:57

Oh great thanks guys :) I'll have a look through the links and report back. Yep, £50 for a dress

OP posts:
MoonlightandRoses · 08/06/2012 22:27

And small child is now back in bed. Smile

this one is interesting
a wrap option

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 08/06/2012 22:38

Oooh I do like that wrap one :) The top lacy one is nice too, but am not in the UK so while I can order online I'm not sure if ASDA would deliver to me?! :o
I think the others might be not dressy enough? The last time I was at a wedding I was 3days overdue so didn't get to dress up very muchand wasn't in the humour for a party, maybe this is making me want to get very dressed up?!

OP posts:
FormerlyTitledUntidy · 08/06/2012 22:40

Procrastination, they are lovely, might revisit them :) Think I would like something plainer though?Am really rubbish at this shopping thing...

OP posts:
MoonlightandRoses · 08/06/2012 23:38

Noooo, don't go plain. ASDA don't deliver overseas, but do you have anyone who could pick up and post on for you?

[Not living vicariously, oh no]

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 09/06/2012 13:01

what do we think of this?

OP posts:
ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 09/06/2012 14:32

Ooh, I like it!

Have you seen it IRL? I wonder if the cut's a bit dodgy - would need to be very good to take the pleats in the bodice and exposed zip and still fall right

MoonlightandRoses · 09/06/2012 21:05

Love the style, but I, too am a little dubious about the cut. Might be worth starting another thread about it. I would go bail someone on here has one / has tried one on.

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 09/06/2012 21:40

Ah fuck bags. I really hoped everyone would say yes, get that :( I'll keep looking.

OP posts:
ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 09/06/2012 22:18

Oh, no, it's well worth trying on! If it is cut well it'll be amazing.

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 09/06/2012 22:19

Meaning: GET IT but be prepared to have to send it back...

MoonlightandRoses · 09/06/2012 22:22

Haven't heard that term before! Grin.

Ok - any of these do?
Oasis are usually well cut - they are Coast's inexpensive sister line
this one could look good
another Oasis one

ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 09/06/2012 22:44

this?
maybe to long?
lace? the colour looks a bit neon in the first photos but not in any of the others.

MoonlightandRoses · 09/06/2012 22:55

Like both the second and third - probably prefer the second as the length could look good with decent heels (not the horrible things they've styled it with).

If you're in anyway dark-skinned though the third could also look v.good

Sorry, not v. decisive ATM!

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 09/06/2012 23:01

Yes! That is it Moonlight! I am buying the first one, the Kirsten. It will be nice with black patent court shoes, yes? Will I need a pashmina?Do people still wear them?
Gah, accessories shopping is even worse than dress shopping!

OP posts:
ProcrastinationAteMyMorning · 09/06/2012 23:01

Yeah, the the styling on that second dress is shocking!

GnocchiNineDoors · 09/06/2012 23:01

Sorry I hope i'm not repeating anyone's links, I haven't looked through them all, but wanted to add

beautiful Warehouse dress in the sale
little bit overbudget but beautiful

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 09/06/2012 23:02

Ok I've missed loads, hang on!

OP posts:
GnocchiNineDoors · 09/06/2012 23:02

Ooops, sorry, in the time I took to post, youve chosen Grin

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 09/06/2012 23:07

But now I might change my mind
Am definitely going to buy it, as will kick myself if I don't but am being tempted by the pink closet dress and the monsoon one...

OP posts:
MoonlightandRoses · 09/06/2012 23:09

Actually Formerly I think you should go with Gnocchi's Monsoon find - that is a really lovely dress.

The design on the first House of Fraser one is nice, but I think the linen and the slightly washed out colour might make it a bit casual for a wedding.
Don't like the second one at all as, while I know the off-centring is deliberate, it looks accidental IYSWIM?
