Tell me your honest opinion about this dress. Am I too young for it?

here

It is jersey material and drapes over the tummy. Would be comfy and I loved it but not sure if it is a granny dress or not. Not tried it on as I thought I would ask Mumsnet first!

Hmm, well am biased as the pattern is only on the front (pet hate of mine). Not quite 'granny' but it doesn't look well finished as a result.

You can get 'comfy' and 'stylish' though, so don't let anyone (including me) talk you out of it if you like it.

Thanks for answering.

Am undecided because M&S can go either way and I was once admiring a skirt when I saw an elderly Granny wearing the same one!

Am never sure which is OK and which is middle aged. Per Una can be frilly but Limited Collection can be lovely. Need to see what DH says..............

I think it's horrible (sorry) but then I am no fashionista... If you love it then buy it. It's not a granny dress.

MoonlightandRoses · 07/06/2012 00:17

It will depend on how it sits too, and if the material is a decent weight, and a whole host of other considerations...(sorry).

Have a look at places like Massimo Dutti and Zara (also LK Bennett & Phase *8 in the sales) too though, you might be surprised!

CointreauVersial · 07/06/2012 00:33

It looks a little shapeless/sack-like to me; have you tried it on?

As with a lot of clothes, it often comes down to how you style/wear it.

MrsBovary · 07/06/2012 00:47

I wouldn't say it was a 'granny' dress, but it's rather unattractive.

AgnesBligg · 07/06/2012 00:52

Not the loveliest dress ever, but not granny. I would agree to it as a comfy dress if it weren't for the ugly pattern.

AdventuresWithVoles · 07/06/2012 00:54

You'll be fine as long as you have a body like the model Wink.
I would like it a lot without the red-white check pattern. That just makes me think of Italian restaurants. Shame, it's fine by me otherwise.

FoofFighter · 07/06/2012 00:57

not at all granny

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 07/06/2012 00:59

it's pretty horrible, i think. where are you hoping to wear it to?

alwaysrunninginheels · 07/06/2012 07:00

I am not overly keen on it and think in the sales you could find nicer for the same price.
Me&em is pricey at full price but things do go down to 70% off and you could then find something like this
www.meandem.com/collection/dresses__skirts/cap-sleeve-ruched-dress/products_id/1182/cPath/522_523_531
Could work. I paid 30something for the last dress I bought there in the sales and they drape well, wash well and suit lots of shapes!

porcamiseria · 07/06/2012 09:32

I get the style, but NOT that pattern! PER UNA !!!

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 07/06/2012 09:37

I avoid M&S because it's always full of white-haired ladies (whatever section you're in).
But that dress is horrible for any age group.
Haven't looked around much lately, so can't think of any off the top of my head, but Dorothy Perkins sometimes have the odd gem. And Oasis.

Loveleopardprint · 07/06/2012 09:42

I actually bought that dress and took it back. Found that the draping collected in the middle, so made me look more bulky. Also the back was so thin it showed my pant line. Might just be my big bottom though!!!Wink

supernannyisace · 07/06/2012 09:59

It's ok. Not a 'granny 'dress.

looking at it in close up though-the fabric on the back does look thin - I am not sure I would pay £45 for it. Be best to go and try it on. I ordered a dress from that range a few weeks ago and was v disappointed with the quality of the fabric and the way it hung.
