Help! ugly, disfiguring , painful spots on jawline

Have had these re occurring over the last few weeks. I am 41 for heaven's sake! I've always had quite oily skin, but not spots (apart from if I'm doing a major detox. Or , the odd blemish due to PMS) and quite good apart from some redness and sensitivity.
I read that spots on chin relate to hormones. Anyone know about jawline?
They're not like the cysts my partner gets on jawline, from ingrown hairs.
They are like proper zits, but come from really deep. They get a head on them so you'd think 'aha squeezing time' but the buggers don't budge! Incredibly, almost seeing stars type of painful if I try to squeeze (I've been able to remove the stubbornest blackheads and whiteheads in the past without even wincing - even with sterilised needles...this is not those though), and I've now got bad scarring from recent failed squeezing. Bad idea, as I already have thin, sensitive skin.
Also..the odd thing is, only one side of jaw. Any ideas?
It's embarrassing and I'm customer facing at work! Hard to cover up especially as my jawline is now bumpy

I've never been able to have kids. So, obv not on the Pill. This is the weird thing though..at the grand old age of 41, my ovulation tests have just come back as normal. My hormone levels used to be low to the point of non existant really. This has never happened before. This is my last attempt to try for a baby. . It's only been the last three years, that I have even had monthly periods! before that, it was 3 or 4 times a year, sometimes zero a year! (took a long while to get diagnosed with thyroid and pituitary problems)

Bloody bane of my life spots along the jawline. I faound slapping loads of Oxi-ten 2.5% along my jawline before bed got rid of them (this drys your skin out though)

the spots are now gone but Im just left now with the scars which at least can be covered up until they go which will prop take months!

OP - your GP should refer you to a NHS derm. I recently visited mine due to ongoing adult acne .. grr.. and had an appt at the Dermatology dept within 6 weeks. They were very helpful - and am to go back in a couple of months.

You don't have to go private.

Good luck. It's a real pita having spots at any age.

I also have these on my chin, stubborn, very painful, scarring b*stards... Definitely hormonal as they appeared at the birth of DS (9mo) and haven't shifted since.

Benzoyl Peroxide creams not working. Went to GP after plucking up the courage, and was told that topical and oral antibiotics don't often work on this kind of acne. Was prescribed a retinoid cream (Adapalene/Differin) which has already had a positive effect. My chin is still a hive of festering carbuncles (it often gets a bit worse before getting better), but the rest of my face is definitely improving - even blocked pores and blackheads seem reduced.

As it's a retinoid, you have to wear a total sunblock every day as it makes skin very hypersensitive to sun. I'm using Clinique City Block (after a MNer recommended it) and it's rather good. My skin has threatened to get very dry a couple of times, but I slap on the coconut oil and haven't had any burning sensation or flakiness as some report. Main bonus of retinoid over peroxide creams is that I'm not bleaching my bed linen, towels, pyjamas etc any more.

Definitely go to your GP - they might 'fix' it without any referring necessary.

I started getting these last year when I was 42, having never really had those type of spots before. They were definitely hormonal, as followed a monthly cycle.
You'll think I'm talking rubbish, but I started following a very low GI (or low carb) eating plan after Christmas & I have not had one spot since then. It has helped with PMT and pre-menstrual bloating too.

I have fastidiously washed all my makeup brushes tonight! I change foundation sponges daily. I'll change pillow cases more often. I don't think it is hygiene...but better hygiene can surely help?

i tried , for the first time, an aspirin face mask. It hasn't done miracles for the rest of my face despite all the rave reviews i've read..., BUT...is HAS dried up the jaw spots! I don't know if cleared up as can feel them, all bumpylike, still under the skin, so if it's infection they could come up again...but....on the surface, so much better. Just dry skin & redness left really, but can live with that (gets tweezers out for the flaky bits) Maybe i should keep nuking them in this way....if not, I know it will tide things over till can get to docs
thanks everyone!
